Tom Selleck’s close friend and fellow Hollywood legend Sam Elliott is stepping in as fans grow increasingly worried about the actor’s health.
According to insiders, Selleck, 80, has been struggling since the cancellation of Blue Bloods in December, ending his 14-year run as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. Sources say the beloved star has been avoiding the spotlight and leaning heavily on comfort food.
“Tom’s down in the dumps,” said an insider. “He’s been bingeing on fast food and chips just to take the blues away.”
Elliott, 81, who bonded with Selleck decades ago while filming the TV Westerns The Sacketts and The Shadow Riders, is reportedly determined to help his longtime pal. “Sam knows how brutal Hollywood’s highs and lows can be,” another source shared. “He’s alarmed at how much Tom has let himself go and how reclusive he’s become.”
At the height of his Magnum, P.I. fame, Selleck was a trim 194 pounds. Now, reports claim the 6’4” actor has crossed the 300-pound mark, sparking concerns among fans and friends alike.
“Sam wants to get Tom out of this rut,” the insider continued. “He’s talking about going to the gym together, eating better, and shifting his whole mindset. It’s about more than just the weight — it’s about helping Tom get his spark back.”
News of Selleck’s rumored health struggles has sent fans into a frenzy on social media.
On X (formerly Twitter), one fan wrote, “Not our Magnum! Someone check on Tom Selleck ASAP.”
Another posted, “Sam Elliott coming to save Tom Selleck is the buddy movie we didn’t know we needed.”
Meanwhile, Instagram is flooded with nostalgic photos from Selleck’s Magnum, P.I. days, with fans begging the actor to “take care of himself” and sending messages of love and support.
Elliott, known for his no-nonsense approach, reportedly plans to guide Selleck toward a healthier lifestyle before things spiral further. “Sam would hate to see Tom shorten his life with these choices,” added the source. “He’s coming from a place of love and just wants his friend happy and healthy again.”
With Elliott by his side and fans rallying behind him, insiders believe Selleck could make a strong comeback — if he’s willing to make a change.
