NFL fans were left speechless at MetLife Stadium after an unexpected, jaw-dropping moment unfolded right before the first kickoff of the 2025 season — and now the footage is going viral.

As the New York Jets prepared to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, a massive 100-yard American flag was ceremoniously rolled out across the field for the national anthem. But just as fans were soaking in the patriotic display, something strange caught their attention — a lone worker was spotted crawling across the giant flag in full view of tens of thousands of spectators and millions watching at home.
From the stands, you could hear the confused murmurs ripple through the crowd. Social media immediately lit up with clips and memes. One Jets fan posted, “Yikes, someone got caught on the flag at MetLife,” while another added, “Poor guy at Jets-Steelers got trapped under the American flag right before the anthem. Unreal.”
Players from both sides stood frozen on the sidelines, clearly trying not to laugh as the man awkwardly crawled on his hands and knees toward the edge of the enormous flag. Cameras even caught several Steelers players exchanging bewildered looks as the worker finally managed to escape the field — just seconds before the anthem began.
The timing couldn’t have been more chaotic. This wasn’t just any Jets game — it marked the highly anticipated debut of new head coach Aaron Glenn, who was facing off against veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the very player the Jets controversially moved on from this offseason.
Within minutes, the “flag crawl” became the hottest topic online. TikTok and X were flooded with slowed-down replays, zoom-ins, and commentary. One viral caption joked, “POV: You realize you’re trapped on a 100-yard flag seconds before the national anthem.” Another dubbed it “the most American struggle of all time.”
NFL fans are already calling it the most bizarre start to a season they’ve ever seen — and for the Jets, a team known for chaotic openers, it’s one for the history books.
