A quiet afternoon in Berlin turned into chaos when a BMW plowed into a group of schoolchildren on Thursday, leaving several injured and one adult fighting for their life.

The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. local time at the busy intersection of Seestraße and Dohnagestell in Berlin-Wedding. Witnesses say the BMW was turning when it suddenly struck a group of 15 children walking with their caregiver.

Berlin’s fire department confirmed that three kids, aged seven to eight, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Virchow Clinic. The adult accompanying them was seriously hurt and rushed to the hospital.

Photos from the scene show ambulances lining the street, medics carrying stretchers, and shocked parents comforting crying children. “It all happened so fast,” one witness told local reporters. “One moment they were laughing. The next, there was screaming everywhere.”

The driver, who has not been identified, was uninjured and questioned on the scene. Authorities currently believe the crash was an accident, but an investigation is underway to determine if speeding or distraction played a role.

Berlin has seen similar tragedies before. In 2022, a car attack in the city killed a teacher and injured several children. Today’s crash has reignited concerns over pedestrian safety near schools and parks.

Police are expected to release more details as the investigation continues. Families of the injured children are waiting anxiously for updates.
