Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid came terrifyingly close to danger after a bullet tore through his office window while he was inside, working late into the night on May 4, 2024. According to Kansas City police, the shot shattered the glass and slammed into a wall just 15 feet from Reid’s desk — a near miss that could have turned deadly in seconds.

The incident happened around 12:15 a.m. at the Chiefs’ practice facility. Overnight security rushed to the scene after hearing what sounded like gunfire. Officers later discovered three separate rounds had struck the building — one ripped through Reid’s window, another lodged in an outdoor air conditioning unit, and a third hit the floor above his office.

Miraculously, no one was hurt, but police are treating the case as aggravated assault since the building was occupied at the time. Detectives believe the shots were fired from outside, though the exact location remains unknown.

While investigators currently believe this was a random act of violence, the timing and proximity have left the organization on edge. An insider told USA Today that the team quickly installed bulletproof windows in Reid’s office following the shooting. “It’s shocking,” the source said. “When you think about what could have happened, it makes your stomach drop.”

Detectives are awaiting forensic analysis to determine where the bullets came from, but no arrests have been made. Police emphasized that there’s no evidence suggesting Reid or the Chiefs were deliberately targeted.

The incident was kept under wraps for months, with the organization quietly increasing security measures across its facilities. Reid, who has led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, has not publicly addressed the near miss.

This close call raises unsettling questions: Was this truly random, or is someone out there taking shots at one of the NFL’s most successful franchises? The investigation remains ongoing.

  1. Doesn’t sound like anyone was trying to shoot anyone. Sounds more like they were just shooting to scare someone. 15 feet I wouldn’t consider a near miss, maybe 2 feet or even a foot, but 15 feet. No one was trying to shoot anyone. I would call it damage to private property.
