A wild street brawl on a Milwaukee freeway left bystanders stunned and social media buzzing after a stick-wielding man went on a window-smashing rampage in broad daylight—turning a downtown traffic jam into a battleground of brute fury.

The dramatic encounter unfolded Tuesday afternoon when 61-year-old Mike Chaltry, visibly bloodied and furious, was caught on video storming out of his car and viciously attacking a white Nissan with a large stick. The shocking footage—now viral—shows Chaltry shattering windows, screaming obscenities, and nearly getting run over in the escalating road rage meltdown.

“I’m not the one who started it,” Chaltry told Milwaukee’s WISN 12 News. “But I guess I’m the face of road rage now.”

A Breakdown on the Blacktop

According to Chaltry, the chaos began minutes earlier on I-794, when the Nissan driver allegedly attempted a dangerous lane cut. The two cars reportedly brushed bumpers before veering off the highway into downtown traffic. But the fight didn’t end there.

Chaltry claimed the Nissan driver then approached his vehicle at a red light and sucker-punched him through the window. “He broke my nose. I needed stitches,” Chaltry said, showing visible bruises on his face. “I didn’t even see it coming.”

That punch, Chaltry says, pushed him over the edge. He grabbed a stick from inside his car—some reports say it may have been a cane—and lashed out in a fury, smashing the Nissan’s side windows as horrified drivers looked on.

Caught on Tape

In the viral video, the Nissan attempts to reverse away during the attack but then lunges forward, nearly pinning Chaltry against another car. Undeterred, he chases the vehicle on foot and lands several more blows before the car speeds off.

“He put my life in danger three times,” Chaltry claimed. “On the highway, when he punched me, and when he tried to hit me with his car. I just don’t understand how people can act like this.”

Police Step In

Milwaukee police later confirmed both men were detained. The Nissan driver—whose name has not been released—was arrested for suspected battery and cited for driving without insurance or registration.

As for Chaltry, his stick-swinging rampage is under review. Authorities referred his case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, where he could face charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

America’s Road Rage Epidemic

This latest freeway fury comes amid a growing crisis of road rage violence nationwide. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, nearly 80 percent of U.S. drivers admitted to aggressive driving or road rage behaviors within the last year.

“These aren’t just tantrums—they’re turning deadly,” said traffic analyst Rachel Kerns. “We’re seeing an increase in weapons, injuries, and even fatalities related to road rage. It’s a cultural shift that needs urgent attention.”

As the city reels from the freeway freakout, Chaltry had one final message: “I was angry, yeah. But I had a reason. I didn’t start this fight.”

In today’s America, it seems the road is no longer just for driving—it’s for surviving.
