A 41-year-old man has been arrested after a horrifying shooting on the Las Vegas Strip that left two people dead just steps from the famed Bellagio fountains—and it was all caught on video.
The suspect, Manuel Ruiz, turned himself in to police early Monday morning, less than 12 hours after opening fire in one of the most crowded tourist spots in the city. The shooting, which happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, sent panicked bystanders fleeing as gunfire erupted just feet away from them.
Footage of the chaos, obtained by TMZ, shows unsuspecting tourists strolling along Las Vegas Boulevard when Ruiz suddenly appears, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, and opens fire at close range. The clip captures a woman screaming in disbelief as people scramble for cover.
Police say the two victims were shot at point-blank range and died at the scene. Their names have not yet been released.
According to investigators, Ruiz and the victims were known to each other and had reportedly been in a dispute that began on social media. Police believe the shooting was targeted, not random.
“It is believed that the suspect and the victims knew each other and had previously engaged in conflict over social media prior to the shooting,” Las Vegas police said in a statement. “At this time, we believe this to be an isolated incident.”
After the video of the shooting went viral, Ruiz walked into a police station in Henderson and surrendered without incident. He has since been charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon.
