A family celebration in southeast Houston turned into a nightmare when an uninvited guest opened fire after being kicked out, leaving one person dead and 14 others wounded in a chaotic shootout.

According to Houston police, the gunfire erupted just before 1 a.m. during a private gathering early Sunday morning. After the uninvited guest was asked to leave, he allegedly pulled a gun and started shooting—prompting several partygoers to fire back.

What followed was a running gun battle that was still underway when officers arrived at the scene. Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu described the scene as “absolute chaos,” with victims scattered throughout the property.

“People were just trying to have a family party,” Cantu said during a news briefing. “Now we have one person dead, others fighting for their lives, and families devastated.”

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Several others were taken to hospitals in critical condition, while some wounded partygoers made their own way to nearby emergency rooms.

Police detained multiple individuals but were unsure if the primary suspect was among them as of Sunday morning. The investigation remains active.

What began as a typical night of music and celebration ended in bloodshed, leaving the neighborhood shaken and authorities scrambling for answers.
