Police in Texas are on the hunt for a man accused of pulling off a bizarre and illegal Easter-themed stunt — hiding plastic eggs filled with marijuana around town.

According to the Lufkin Police Department, arrest warrants have been issued for Avante Nicholson after he allegedly scattered weed-filled Easter eggs in public parks and near a motel. The department shared the details in a Facebook post on Thursday, April 24.

Cops say they first got tipped off when a town resident spotted a suspicious Facebook post about the eggs. Nicholson had apparently uploaded four photos hinting at where he hid the eggs, plus a shot showing five plastic eggs sitting inside a car seat.

Officers quickly found four of the eggs — three in different parks and one tucked behind a Motel 6. But the mystery deepened when the fifth egg surfaced the next day, found by a man and his young granddaughter at Winston Park. They turned it in to the police.

Each egg contained more than a quarter-ounce of marijuana, according to authorities. After digging deeper into Nicholson’s social media activity, investigators linked him to posts advertising drug sales. He even teased that customers who “shopped” with him would get extra clues to the Easter egg scavenger hunt.

“This is one of those situations that sounds too crazy to be true,” Lufkin Police Chief David Thomas said. “But sometimes even the most unlikely tips turn out to be legit.”

Thomas added that public safety is always the department’s top priority — especially when kids could be involved.

Nicholson is now facing four felony charges, including three counts of delivering marijuana in a drug-free zone — near parks, schools, and youth centers — and one general delivery of marijuana charge. If convicted under Texas law, he could be looking at up to two years behind bars and fines up to $10,000.

The search for Nicholson is ongoing.
