Skepticism. Struggle. Secrets. Even Michelle Obama’s own family didn’t believe her relationship with Barack would go the distance — and now, her brother is saying it out loud.

In a jaw-dropping moment from the latest episode of their “IMO” podcast, Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama’s older brother and a former college basketball coach, made a blunt confession: he thought Barack was just another passing fling.

“I’ve told this story many times,” Craig said. “We didn’t know who this guy was. Barack? What kind of name is that? I thought to myself, ‘It’s going to last about a month, like the rest of them.’”

That comment drew immediate pushback from the former First Lady — who, at 61, is still clearly sensitive about how their story started. “That’s not true. I had many long-term boyfriends,” Michelle snapped back. But Craig wasn’t letting it slide. “I wouldn’t call those guys boyfriends,” he responded.

From Doubt to Basketball Tryout

Craig went on to paint a vivid picture of the first time he met Barack Obama — long before the media dubbed them “America’s first couple.”

“We’re sitting on the porch waiting. Michelle pulls up. First thing my mom says is, ‘Well, at least he’s tall,’” he laughed. “And I said to myself, ‘Too bad it’s not going to last.’”

Things only turned around when Michelle asked Craig to do something a little unusual: test Obama’s character… on the basketball court.

“She says, ‘Would you mind taking him to play?’ So I do. And you know what? He was a team player. He fit in,” Craig admitted. “That’s when I knew he might stick around.”

Behind the Scenes of the So-Called ‘Perfect’ Couple

This rare peek behind the curtain comes at a time when the Obamas’ marriage is already under the microscope. Rumors of a rift have circulated for months. Some reports even suggest divorce may be on the table — something Michelle recently denied during a podcast interview with actress Sophia Bush.

But her denial wasn’t exactly reassuring.

“When I say ‘no,’ people go, ‘I get it, I’m okay,'” Michelle said vaguely. She then shifted the conversation toward societal expectations of women. “They couldn’t fathom I was making choices for myself — so they assumed we’re divorcing.”

Financial Red Flags from Day One

This isn’t the first time Michelle has opened up about the early red flags in her relationship with Barack. In a previous podcast episode, she admitted he “wasn’t financially sound” when they started dating. “I had to be ready to do some hard things with him,” she said — raising eyebrows among critics who’ve long pointed to Barack’s meteoric rise as being more about image than substance.

A Presidency Built on Personality?

For many Republican voters, this is just the latest proof that the Obama fairy tale was never what it seemed. From questions about Barack’s background to his mishandling of the economy, foreign policy blunders, and endless virtue signaling, critics have argued that America bought into charisma over competence.

Now, even Michelle’s own brother is admitting he didn’t buy it at first either.

And maybe he had a point.

The Verdict

While the Obamas continue to rake in millions through speaking gigs, media deals, and brand-building, cracks in the foundation are beginning to show. Behind the filtered Instagram posts and polished interviews, the truth is harder to ignore: even Michelle’s inner circle had serious doubts — and maybe they weren’t wrong to have them.
