WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Trump-aligned prosecutor is digging into one of the biggest scandals Joe Biden may have left behind: the mystery surrounding his last-minute presidential pardons. And the question at the heart of the probe—was Biden even mentally fit to sign them?
Ed Martin, the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and longtime Trump ally, is leading the charge.
According to reports from The New York Times, Martin has already fired off a round of official letters to key Biden insiders—including former Chief of Staff Jeffrey Zients, and even Biden’s own brother James and sister-in-law Sara.
“We’re not accusing anyone—yet,” one federal source familiar with the situation told the Times, “but the American people deserve to know if these pardons were signed by a competent President—or a pen pushed by shadow handlers.”
THE AUTOPEN CONTROVERSY
Conservatives have long raised red flags about Biden’s mental state. But the firestorm really took off after rumors swirled that an autopen—a mechanical device that replicates a signature—may have been used to finalize controversial pardons in Biden’s final hours in office.
President Trump wasn’t shy. He sounded off on Truth Social:
“These pardons are VOID and ILLEGAL. Biden had NO IDEA what was going on. The criminals behind this should be investigated—and prosecuted.”
Trump added,
“The so-called ‘President’ didn’t even approve these documents. He was out of it—mentally gone. This is a scandal bigger than Watergate.”
WHO GOT PARDONED? AND WHY?
While the full list of Biden’s last-minute pardons hasn’t been made public, sources say several were politically connected. Some close to the investigation suggest at least one of the recipients had ties to major Democrat donors.
Critics are asking: Were these pardons payoffs?
And did Biden even know he was signing them?
WHITE HOUSE SILENT, FORMER STAFF DEFENSIVE
The Biden White House refused to comment on the brewing investigation. But one former official came out swinging:
“President Biden personally reviewed and signed every pardon. The idea that he didn’t is absurd,” they said.
But not everyone’s buying it.
“Let’s be honest,” one senior GOP aide told us. “Joe Biden didn’t know what day it was, let alone who he was pardoning.”

BOTTOM LINE:
If Biden didn’t knowingly approve those pardons, every single one could be invalid.
And if others signed on his behalf without proper authority?
