Hollywood’s love affair with identity politics just hit a wall — hard. Disney’s latest attempt to remake Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler, is flopping at the box office. And insiders say it could finally force studios to dump their obsession with left-wing “box-checking.”
The $270 million project has so far pulled in only $100 million worldwide, with just $56 million from U.S. theaters by its second weekend. For a studio once known for magic, it’s turning into a nightmare.
Insiders: “It’s Survival Mode Now”
More than a dozen producers, writers, and award-winners are speaking out. Many now admit Hollywood’s woke gamble is collapsing.
“When the #MeToo movement and the George Floyd protests hit, every studio jumped on the woke bandwagon,” said one Disney insider. “Five years later, they’re panicking. It’s survival mode behind the scenes.”
One industry veteran told Radar: “This film is the final nail in the coffin of wokeism.”
Middle America Snubbed — And Paying Audiences Walked
An Oscar-nominated producer slammed Hollywood’s elitist mindset: “I still hear people dismiss the ‘flyover states’ — like those folks don’t matter. Newsflash: they’re the ones watching our movies!”
The numbers back that up. Disney used to dominate with live-action remakes. The Lion King earned $1.6 billion. Beauty and the Beast cleared $1.2 billion. The Little Mermaid made $569 million. Snow White can’t even get halfway there.
Oscars Are Tanking — And So Is Credibility
One glaring symbol of the industry’s direction? The Oscars.
Hollywood introduced new “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” (DEI) rules in 2020. Now, films must meet racial and gender quotas to be eligible. And audiences have tuned out.
“This year’s Oscars were a joke,” said the producer. “Nobody watched. Nobody cared. These films aren’t made for real people anymore.”
Couldn’t Nominate Casablanca Today
Another Hollywood source put it bluntly: “A classic like The Godfather couldn’t even get nominated today. Too white. Too male.”
Instead, studios are pushing fringe films like Emilia Perez — a musical about a Mexican drug lord who transitions from male to female. “These movies only appeal to a handful of ultra-left elites,” the source added.
“Woke Was a Business Move — And It Backfired”
An Amazon Prime insider revealed what many suspected: “DEI was never about justice or equality. It was a marketing ploy. But audiences didn’t buy it. Now the backlash is real.”
A filmmaker told The Daily Mail, “Going woke was supposed to bring in young viewers. All it did was piss everyone off.”
Zegler’s Politics Didn’t Help
Rachel Zegler’s progressive views — and past comments mocking the original Snow White as outdated — may have turned off core fans.
Ironically, her co-star Gal Gadot holds more conservative positions and has faced her own criticism from Hollywood’s left. That tension didn’t help the film’s image.
Woke Fatigue Sets In
Despite the poor performance, Snow White is technically the third-biggest Hollywood release of 2025. Only Captain America: Brave New World ($403M) and Dog Man ($130M) have done better.
But make no mistake: the message is loud and clear.
“America wants good stories,” said a veteran director. “Not lectures. Not quotas. Just good movies. Hollywood forgot that.”
It may have taken a $270 million crash to remind them.

Why wouldn\’t it bomb?

No sympathies for the forcers of evil…
Not drop what you call \”left wing etc.\” just find another venue. Think back to very expensive movie retelling American history the way Republicans wanted it told almost a century ago. Movie making is marketing and I snse idealogues like the Republicans don\’t fare so well doing this. Larry Schlatter
Instead of poorly remaking great stories from the Republicans, the WOKE need to come up with original new stories of their own… but aren’t smart enough…
