Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, a beloved member of the legendary girl group TLC, is making headlines for a personal revelation about marriage. In a candid conversation on Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 Chosen Journey Radio Show, Chilli shared how reading the Bible transformed her outlook on one of life’s biggest commitments.
For years, the Grammy-winning singer saw marriage as something to be avoided. “Before reading the Bible all the way through…I didn’t want to get married,” she admitted. She described matrimony as “torture and bondage,” fearing that a marriage would inevitably end in divorce.
Her hesitation wasn’t just a passing thought. Chilli explained that even before deepening her faith, she recognized the gravity of marriage as an institution created by God. “I think it was really scary to me because I still, before reading the word, understood that, you know, God created marriage. So, I mean, it’s serious. I took it that serious to not ever marry during those years of my life,” she revealed.
At 53, Chilli has since had a change of heart. While she once joked about keeping her lawyer on speed dial in case of divorce, her perspective shifted after immersing herself in scripture and finding a relationship that changed her mind.
Her journey wasn’t without its bumps. After a highly publicized relationship with singer Usher and a stint on a reality dating show, “What Chilli Wants,” she remained single for years. But in 2022, she found love with actor Matthew Lawrence, a man she describes as a “good guy” who “checks off all of my list.”
Speaking on the “Portia Show” last May, Chilli credited Lawrence with helping her overcome her fears about marriage. “He’s shown me that love and commitment can be beautiful,” she said.
As one of the most recognizable figures from the ‘90s music scene, Chilli’s evolution on marriage highlights the power of faith in reshaping personal beliefs. Her story resonates with many who wrestle with the weight of lifelong commitment, offering a fresh perspective on how faith can guide important life choices.

AAAHHH !! Well, reading Harry Potter changed my view on witches…..
She must have missed the part of the Patriarchs with many wives and concubines and adultery punished by stoning and the pillar of salt bit and incest and ethnic cleansing…
Oh well, nothing wrong with marriage , but I do not think a fairy tale book is a great guide for a successful one
