A 12-year-old Indiana girl, a distant relative of Vice President JD Vance, has been denied a spot on a heart transplant list because she is unvaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu. Her parents are now fighting for her right to life-saving care.
A Family’s Struggle for Adaline’s Life
Adaline Deal was born with two rare heart conditions—Ebstein’s anomaly and Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. Her parents, Janeen and Jason Deal, always knew she would one day need a transplant. After nearly a decade of treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, they hoped she would receive one there. Instead, they were given devastating news: No vaccine, no transplant.
“We were blindsided,” said Janeen Deal. “I thought hospitals were about saving lives, not pushing medical mandates.”
The hospital requires transplant candidates to be fully vaccinated. The Deal family, devout nondenominational Christians, refuse to vaccinate Adaline based on their religious beliefs.
“The Holy Spirit put it on our hearts,” Janeen explained. “We trust in God’s protection, not pharmaceutical companies.”
A Mother’s Plea—And A System That Refuses to Budge
The hospital refused to grant an exemption, despite Adaline’s urgent medical need. Medical professionals argue that transplant patients are vulnerable to infections, making vaccinations essential. Dr. Camille Kotton of Massachusetts General Hospital emphasized that transplant recipients face a heightened risk of severe disease.
“The first year after a transplant is the most dangerous. Unvaccinated patients are at even higher risk,” she said.
But the Deal family isn’t convinced. “We have 11 other children, none of them vaccinated,” Janeen said. “We’ve never had an issue. We’ll trust in God’s will for Adaline’s life.”
Cincinnati Children’s Stands Firm
A hospital spokesperson declined to confirm whether Adaline was denied the transplant but insisted that decisions are made based on “science, research, and best practices.”
“We tailor care plans to each patient while ensuring the safest, most effective treatment,” said hospital representative Bo McMillan.
For the Deal family, this response rings hollow. “This isn’t about medicine. It’s about control,” said Jason Deal. “We’re being forced to choose between our faith and our daughter’s life.”
Seeking Another Way—And Public Support Grows
The family is now searching for another hospital willing to perform the transplant without vaccine mandates. A GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $50,000 to cover potential costs.
“We won’t stop until Adaline gets the care she needs,” Janeen declared. “She deserves a chance to live.”
As debates over medical freedom and hospital policies intensify, one thing remains clear—Adaline Deal’s fight for survival is far from over.

Considering all the issues that they have found with the Covid vaccine and the health problems many of the vaccinated have had since, I don’t think this should be a mandatory step for transplants. I can understand the flu shot, but not the C-19 vaccine.
