President Donald Trump’s approval rating is higher than most world leaders, showing his strong influence at home and abroad. A new Morning Consult poll conducted from January 21-27 ranks Trump ahead of nearly every major global leader except four. His growing popularity underscores a shift in political momentum as he prepares for another election cycle.
The Numbers
The poll found that Trump’s approval rating sits at 52%, with 38% disapproving and 10% undecided. This places him ahead of leaders in major Western democracies, highlighting his enduring appeal among voters.
Only four leaders surpassed Trump:
- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi: 75% approval, 19% disapproval
- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum: 66% approval, 26% disapproval
- Argentine President Javier Milei: 65% approval, 30% disapproval
- Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter: 56% approval, 20% disapproval
By contrast, some of America’s closest allies are seeing record-low ratings:
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: 22% approval, 71% disapproval
- German Chancellor Olaf Scholz: 20% approval, 74% disapproval
- French President Emmanuel Macron: 18% approval, 76% disapproval
- South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol: 17% approval, 75% disapproval (recently impeached)
- Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala: 16% approval, 77% disapproval (lowest rating overall)
These figures indicate a stark divide between leaders who embrace nationalist policies and those who promote globalist agendas.
The Trump Factor: Why Is He So Popular?
Trump’s approval surge reflects voter frustration with the status quo. His policies on immigration, trade, and the economy resonate with a broad base of Americans. Recent polling shows strong support for his key initiatives:
- 55% of voters back his mass deportation plan (New York Times/Ipsos)
- 88% support deporting undocumented immigrants with criminal records
- 72% of Black voters cite immigration as a key issue (AtlasIntel)
Additionally, Trump’s support among younger voters is rising. Emerson College polling found 46% of 18-to-29-year-olds approve of his performance, signaling a potential realignment of voting blocs.
Political analyst Thomas Gift notes: “There’s a hunger for populist nationalism. Trump is flooding the zone and reshaping Washington faster than his critics can react.”
Boston University’s Andrew David adds: “For Trump personally, these numbers are impressive. His support across demographics is stronger than during his first term.”
Looking Ahead: Will His Numbers Hold?
While Trump’s current ratings are high, history suggests approval numbers fluctuate. Oxford historian Laura Smith cautions: “Modern presidents often start strong, but as policies take effect, sentiment can shift.”
However, Trump’s approval momentum—especially among key voting blocs—signals a political force that could redefine the 2024 election.
Bottom Line: Trump is more popular than ever. If this trend continues, it could shape America’s political landscape for years to come.
