Former NASCAR team co-owner Bob Rahilly is recovering in the hospital after a devastating house fire at his Union County, North Carolina, home. Rahilly, who co-owned RahMoc Enterprises, suffered third-degree burns in the blaze that broke out on January 12.
According to FDNY Racing, the incident left Rahilly with serious injuries, and they shared a heartfelt message on social media: “Thoughts and prayers out to one of our FDNY Racing crew members. Our own Bob Rahilly was injured in a house fire and is in the hospital with third-degree burns. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”
New reports reveal that Rahilly could be in the hospital for several months as he recovers from his injuries. WBTV.com reported that the former NASCAR team owner may need up to two months of care at the Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center. Rahilly’s team, RahMoc Enterprises, competed in NASCAR from 1978 to 1992, with Neil Bonnett behind the wheel for four Cup Series races.
The fire, which occurred at Rahilly’s home on Stevens Mill Road in Stallings, North Carolina, began in the early hours of January 12. Several fire departments responded to the scene, working to control the blaze. Tragically, Rahilly was also injured by flying glass from a door that exploded during the fire.
The Stallings Fire Department issued a statement on Facebook, describing the scene: “At 12:19 a.m., Hemby Bridge and Stallings were alerted to a possible structure fire. The first unit on the scene found the house fully involved, and Mint Hill was added to the response. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Union County Fire Marshal’s Office.”
