Outgoing FBI Director Christopher Wray announced his resignation ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Wray cited a desire to avoid further politicization of the bureau while defending the controversial 2022 raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Speaking on CBS’s “60 Minutes”, Wray explained the difficult decision to leave before the end of his 10-year term. “I care deeply about the FBI and its mission. But the president-elect made it clear he wanted new leadership, and that’s his prerogative,” Wray told Scott Pelley. “The best thing for the bureau was to ensure an orderly transition and avoid deeper entanglement in political controversy.”

Despite appointing Wray during his first term, Trump has repeatedly criticized the FBI, especially over the Mar-a-Lago raid. Federal agents searched the estate in August 2022, acting on suspicions that classified documents were improperly stored. Trump called the raid a “witch hunt” and vowed to reform the bureau if re-elected.

Wray defended the decision, stating, “A search warrant is never the first choice. But when classified information isn’t being properly secured, we have a duty to act.”

The raid became a flashpoint for Trump supporters, with many calling it politically motivated. Trump faced federal charges stemming from the investigation, though the cases were dropped after his November election victory.

In his interview, Wray pivoted to what he called the FBI’s most pressing challenge: China’s growing influence. He warned about the Chinese government’s aggressive cyber activities, including targeting critical infrastructure like water treatment plants, transportation systems, and the electric grid.

“They’re not just stealing data,” Wray said. “They’re probing the very systems Americans rely on every day. This is a wake-up call.”

Wray’s remarks come as Trump prepares to nominate Kash Patel, a former Justice Department attorney, as the next FBI director. Patel’s confirmation will likely face scrutiny in the Senate, given his ties to Trump and criticism of the bureau’s previous leadership.

Wray also addressed the FBI’s investigation into Hunter Biden, who was convicted of gun and tax charges before being pardoned by his father, President Joe Biden. Critics, including President-elect Trump, have accused the FBI of being lenient.

“The FBI’s job is to follow the facts, no matter who’s involved,” Wray asserted. “This work often angers powerful people on all sides.”

Wray leaves the FBI after more than seven years of service. His tenure was marked by controversies, from election interference investigations to public criticism from both political parties.

Trump celebrated Wray’s departure, calling it “a great day for America.” Meanwhile, Wray expressed pride in the bureau’s work. “The FBI’s mission transcends politics,” he said. “We stand for the rule of law, even when it’s unpopular.”

As the nation prepares for a new chapter, the challenges ahead—from domestic division to foreign threats—will test the resilience of America’s institutions. Whether Kash Patel can navigate these waters remains to be seen.

  1. There was nothing controversial about the FBI raid on Mar-o Lago. For months, Trump and his team denied having the documents and refuse to return them (probably to sell USA secrets to the biggest bidder). In my opinion, Garland was very passive when it came to prosecute MAGA criminals. Anybody else stealing and holding classified documents is send away immediately , BUT Trump was given a pass.

    1. LOL! Usual total lies from HitlerSmith… Trump admitted to having the documents from his presidency, admitted they were his, knew he was legally allowed to see and have them, and allowed anyone with proper security clearance to view and research in them… Jokementia Bribery had STOLEN secret documents from over 50 years even though he was NEVER legally allowed to have or remove them! He stored some in his often open garage next to his car and others in an office at Penn. U paid for by China!

  2. Wray said a search warrant is necessary if Documents are improperly stored. Was Bidens documents properly stored in his garage for all to see. Tump as President had the right to have access to these documents (yes they should have been returned when leaving Presidency) but Biden as vice President or when he was a Senator did not. Point is there was/is a double standard here.

  3. What was controversial, and it wasn\’t a raid. They had subpoenaed his records, he refused to answer it, and they told him they were coming to make sure he wasn\’t there at the time.

It was not a raid….it was a judge approved mission to retrieve stolen classified records he had taken from White House.
