“We’re battling not just the flames but also the conditions—winds, heat, and the lack of resources,” Ramirez said.
Governor Newsom emphasized the urgency, stating: “Many homes and lives are at risk. We’re doing everything possible to protect Californians.”
Residents described chaotic evacuations as flames closed in.
“It was terrifying,” said Maria Lopez, who fled with her two children. “We had to abandon our car because traffic wasn’t moving. We just ran, carrying whatever we could.”
As of Wednesday morning, nearly 300,000 Californians are without power. Firefighters are working around the clock, but containment remains elusive. Experts warn that continued high winds could worsen the situation.
