For nearly two decades, the disappearance of Amanda Overstreet lingered as a silent mystery. In a shocking turn of events, the 16-year-old’s remains were discovered this January, locked away in a chest freezer at her former family home.

Amanda’s mother, Leanne Imer, has now broken her silence, revealing her own anguish and disbelief. “I had no idea she was there,” Imer told LiveNews. “We ate meat out of that freezer. I can’t even wrap my head around it.”

The tragic revelation came when the home’s new owners offered the leftover freezers online, unaware of their grim contents. As they emptied one freezer, they stumbled upon human remains. DNA testing confirmed in December that the remains belonged to Amanda, last seen in 2005.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Amanda was never formally reported missing. However, her case has drawn intense scrutiny, igniting debates among true crime enthusiasts and justice advocates alike.

Leanne Imer recounted the explanation her late husband, Bradley Imer, provided regarding Amanda’s disappearance. In April 2005, Bradley claimed to be driving Amanda to her grandfather’s home in Texas.

“He said they stopped near Amarillo because Amanda became upset and got out of the car,” Imer recalled. “She walked away, flipped him off, and disappeared around a corner. He waited for hours, then drove back to Colorado.”

Despite her doubts, Leanne says she believed Bradley’s story. “He was vivid in his descriptions. I had no reason to question him back then.”

Bradley, who passed away in 2021 from COVID-19 complications, had a troubled past. Records show a 2002 arrest in Arizona for drug trafficking, DUI, and possession of illegal firearms. He ultimately served probation after striking a plea deal.

Amanda’s life had been marked by upheaval. She was adopted at age three by her grandparents, Nelda and James Overstreet, in Texas. After Nelda fell ill in late 2004, Amanda returned to Colorado to live with the Imers.

The transition was anything but smooth. In the months leading up to her disappearance, Amanda reportedly struggled with the shift back to her biological mother’s household.

“I always thought she was out there living her best life,” Leanne tearfully admitted. “I told myself she’d call when she turned 18—or maybe when she got married. But that call never came.”

Since the discovery, Leanne has faced relentless accusations online, with many speculating about her involvement. “I’ve cooperated fully with law enforcement,” she emphasized. “I’ve done nothing but try to help find answers for Amanda.”

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the investigation remains active but declined to provide further details. “This case is complex,” said a spokesperson. “We’re committed to uncovering the truth.”

True crime followers and locals alike are left asking: How did Amanda’s remains end up in that freezer? Did someone deliberately conceal her fate?

For Leanne, the haunting reality is unbearable. “She was just a teenager,” she said, voice breaking. “To think she was right there all along… it’s beyond comprehension.”
