CBS’s 60 Minutes has ignited a firestorm with its sharp critique of former President Trump’s latest cabinet picks. Host Scott Pelley didn’t hold back, opening Sunday’s episode with a scathing takedown of Trump’s choices, hitting conservative nerves across the country.

Elon Musk, Trump supporter and tech billionaire, joined the backlash, branding the segment “leftist trash” and calling 60 Minutes “propaganda.” Right-wing voices rallied online, accusing CBS of blatant bias.

Trump’s picks, including Army veteran and Fox News contributor Pete Hegseth, former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, and controversial figure Robert F. Kennedy Jr., were the target of Pelley’s monologue.

Pelley dismissed Hegseth’s qualifications for Secretary of Defense, claiming he has “no government experience.” This critique comes despite Hegseth’s years of experience in the Army, a record that many conservatives see as more than sufficient for the role.

Matt Gaetz, Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, was similarly attacked. Pelley highlighted Gaetz’s past scrutiny under a Justice Department investigation into sex trafficking—though no charges were ever filed. Pelley didn’t acknowledge Gaetz’s recent House victories or his legislative record, instead zeroing in on past allegations. This dismissal has enraged Trump supporters who argue that Gaetz’s resilience and Republican endorsement should qualify him for the position.

Tulsi Gabbard, nominee for Director of National Intelligence, faced Pelley’s criticism over her outspoken support for whistleblower Edward Snowden, who leaked classified documents and currently resides in Russia. Gabbard, a former Democrat, has since aligned with Trump’s views on government accountability. This choice represents Trump’s pivot towards candidates willing to challenge the entrenched system, a value many on the right praise as necessary for America’s future.

Then, there’s Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a noted vaccine skeptic, chosen to head the Department of Health. Pelley’s blunt critique focused solely on RFK Jr.’s vaccine views, entirely omitting his deep-rooted family history in American public service and his widespread appeal to those concerned about public health transparency.

Trump’s new White House Communications Director Steven Cheung took to X (formerly Twitter) to lambast Pelley’s coverage, calling it “disgusting bias.” Cheung pointed to CBS’s history of editing interviews, as seen with Vice President Kamala Harris, to portray Democrats in a favorable light while targeting conservatives with suspicion and scorn.

Tech mogul Elon Musk echoed Cheung’s sentiment. Musk, who has backed Trump publicly and contributed to his campaign, warned Republicans to steer clear of 60 Minutes and CBS. “They hate Trump,” Musk posted, urging conservatives to boycott the network and highlighting what he views as a corrupt media.

The incident underscores a long-standing bias that conservatives feel permeates mainstream media. CBS’s relentless scrutiny isn’t new; they’ve frequently gone after Trump and his allies. But for many Republicans, the latest 60 Minutes segment signals a new low in journalism.

  1. I stopped watching CBS years ago when it became obvious to me that they were siding against conservatives. From Norah to all of the 60 minutes team your network has become a liberal concubine. If yellowstone wasn’t on paramount I would have no dealings with CBS. I will give you credit though, at least you’re not trying to hide it now.

  2. I don’t watch 60 minutes but it’s no surprise they delivered leftist trash and propaganda. That’s all that the government-controlled alphabet “news” organizations ever deliver. Seems they still haven’t received the loud message from the majority of American voters that we reject all of them and their ridiculous TDS affliction. We’re moving forward to better days, leaving their idiocy in the dust.

  3. These attacks on Trump’s appallingly unqualified choices for his cabinet and other key positions in his new administration are 100 % justified . Instead of choosing highly qualified people with the necessary credentials , Trump has chosen nothing but yes men who will do his bidding without questioning him or disagreeing with him .
Matt Gaetz for Attorney General ? Unbelievable ! He is a total slime ball who belongs in prison , not the White House .

  4. Let’s face it, be real.  Anything Trump says or does, who he appoints, etc. will immediately be targeted by the Left.  Even though the electi

  5. They are terrible choices for just about all cabinet positions…only exception of a qualified candidate is Rubio for Sec of State. Their only qualification is unflinching loyalty …because they know they could not go any further without being a minion to Trump
Trump is either trolling us or just testing how much spine leftover do GOP senators have to accept a pedophile as AG or a Russian asset as Director of National Intelligence or a Fox News talking head as the manager of our largest most vital department….Putin is probably rolling in joy….
Regarding Musk and Trump…two primadonnas who think they are the greatest humans alive…this will not last long and it will end badly
    This is how Fascism starts….

  6. Scott Pelley is a fool.  He, Anderson Cooper and Lesly Stahl are 3 of the reasons I quit watching \”60 Minutes\” years ago. Norah O\’Donnell finally met the same fate as Dan Rather and Brian Williams, news anchors whose partisanship overcame their professional training and good sense. Maybe it is time for the pundits at ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX and NBC to get out of the ivory towers, get out of the studio and take a very long detailed look at what their preferred political persuasions are costing the people of the United States.  Perhaps a return to journalism school to review what the word \”objective\” means, what \”respect for the points of view others\” means as well.  arthur block
