Three U.S. Navy members were hospitalized after a late-night house party in California erupted into a violent fight that ended with all three being stabbed, police said.
The frightening incident unfolded Friday night at a home in northwest Fresno, where investigators say a confrontation broke out among people attending the gathering.
Fresno police learned about the violence after the three injured service members arrived at Community Regional Medical Center.
Officers were called to the hospital just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports that three stabbing victims had been brought in, according to ABC30.
Investigators soon determined that all three victims were enlisted members of the U.S. Navy who had been attending a house party near Crystal Avenue, south of Shaw Avenue.
Police said the three became involved in a fight during the party and were stabbed.
Exactly what triggered the confrontation remained unclear Sunday, and authorities have not released the names or ages of the injured Navy personnel.
Two of the service members suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The third victim was much more seriously hurt but was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to local reports.
It was not immediately clear whether the three Navy members were stabbed by the same person or whether multiple people were involved in the attack.
Police have also not publicly identified a suspect.
As of the latest update, no arrests had been announced.
The incident occurred in the 4600 block of North Crystal Avenue in northwest Fresno, near Gettysburg Avenue, according to the Fresno Bee.
Investigators were working to determine how the dispute began, who participated in the fight and what happened in the moments leading up to the stabbings.
The fact that all three victims are Navy personnel adds another question to the investigation.
Naval Air Station Lemoore, one of the U.S. Navy’s major West Coast aviation installations, is located roughly 30 miles south of Fresno. The base serves as a major hub for Navy strike fighter operations, including F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-35C Lightning II squadrons.
However, authorities have not said whether any of the three victims are stationed at NAS Lemoore, and there is currently no indication that the stabbing was connected to their military service.
That distinction is important as police continue trying to piece together what happened.
For now, investigators appear to be treating the case as violence stemming from a fight at a private house party rather than an attack specifically targeting members of the military.
Police have not disclosed whether a weapon was recovered from the home or whether investigators have interviewed other people who were at the party.
No possible motive has been announced.
The investigation remains active, and additional details — including the identities of those involved and whether anyone will face charges — could emerge as detectives interview witnesses and review evidence from the scene.
