Joy Behar sparked a tense debate on The View after accusing the media of treating questions about President Donald Trump’s health differently than it treated concerns surrounding former President Joe Biden.
The exchange unfolded during the September 18 episode of the ABC daytime show as the panel discussed aging politicians and Sen. Mitch McConnell’s return to Capitol Hill following an extended absence. ABC’s official episode archive confirms the broadcast aired that day.
“The media does not cover Trump the way they covered Joe Biden,” Behar told her co-hosts.
Her claim immediately drew disagreement from several people around the table.
Sara Haines argued that the public reaction to Biden was partly driven by what she described as a noticeable change in how the former president spoke over time.
By contrast, she said Trump’s often winding speaking style has been familiar to voters for years.
“Trump has always sounded like this,” Haines said during the discussion, adding that he frequently jumps between subjects before returning to his original point.
Ana Navarro pushed back, pointing to several public appearances involving Trump that she believed had raised questions about his age and health.
Navarro referenced occasions when Trump appeared to fall asleep and also mentioned his ankles and discoloration visible on his hands. Those remarks were Navarro’s observations and were not presented with a medical diagnosis or evidence establishing cognitive impairment.
Alyssa Farah Griffin also disagreed with Behar’s broader claim.
“I think the media does cover that Trump is declining,” Farah Griffin said, referring to coverage questioning the president’s age and condition.
Haines then delivered perhaps the sharpest response of the exchange.
“Here alone, Joy, you talk about him every day,” she said as Behar prepared to send the show to a commercial break.
The discussion grew out of a broader conversation about McConnell, who had returned to Senate business following health-related absences. During the same segment, the panel debated whether lawmakers should face age limits, cognitive testing or other restrictions intended to address concerns about officials remaining in office at advanced ages.
The View itself posted video from that portion of the McConnell discussion on its official social-media account, giving viewers a direct look at the conversation that led into the Trump-Biden debate.
Behar has repeatedly criticized Trump on the program, making her position toward the president no secret.
Earlier in 2026, she said on The View’s Behind the Table podcast that she wanted part of her legacy to be helping remove Trump from office. The White House has responded harshly to her criticism on multiple occasions.
Following the latest exchange, White House spokesman Davis Ingle attacked Behar personally in a statement provided to Fox News Digital, calling her an “unlikeable” and “talentless” host and accusing her of suffering from what Trump supporters frequently call “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
The dispute also revived a politically sensitive question that dominated the final months of Biden’s presidency: how aggressively the press should cover the age and health of presidents.
Biden, who left the 2024 presidential race after his widely criticized debate performance against Trump and growing pressure from fellow Democrats, later rejected claims that he had suffered cognitive decline.
During a 2025 appearance on The View, Biden said critics claiming otherwise were “wrong” and argued there was nothing to support those assertions. His denial did not settle the broader political argument over how his condition had been covered while he was in office.
Trump, meanwhile, continues to face scrutiny over his own age and public appearances, but neither comments from television hosts nor isolated clips can independently establish a medical diagnosis.
That distinction is important because the latest View argument was ultimately about media coverage and perception — not a medical determination about either man.
