A federal special agent allegedly shot and killed his wife before taking his own life in a shocking murder-suicide at the couple’s New Jersey home, authorities said.
Kelly Iatauro, 46, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside the family’s Sayreville home Friday night, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Her husband, Christopher Iatauro, 52, was discovered in the backyard with what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The disturbing deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide, with Christopher identified as the suspected gunman, prosecutors confirmed.
Authorities have not revealed what may have triggered the deadly violence.
Christopher worked as a special agent for the Department of Homeland Security, according to government records from 2019 and 2020 obtained by local radio station NJ101.5.
Sayreville police rushed to the home on Glynn Court at around 8 p.m. Friday.
As officers responded to the scene, residents in the surrounding neighborhood were ordered to remain inside their homes. Part of the street was also closed for at least 40 minutes while authorities secured the area.
Kelly’s devastated family later announced her funeral arrangements while remembering her as a loving and unforgettable woman.
“As many of you may now know, my beautiful sister-in-law, Kelly Iatauro, was senselessly and suddenly taken from us on Friday,” her sister-in-law wrote in a heartbreaking Facebook tribute.
“Kelly was a bright light — kind, thoughtful, hysterical, inappropriate, and just one of the most amazing people I’ve ever known. She left a lasting impression on anyone that was lucky enough to know her.”
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
