Bodies of four missing tourists have been pulled from a terrifying underwater cave known as “Shark Cave” after a nightmare diving expedition in the Maldives ended in tragedy.

The doomed group of Italian divers vanished during a deep-sea exploration trip inside the notorious Thinwana Kandu cave system — a dangerous underwater maze feared by experienced divers because of its extreme depths and powerful currents.

Now, after days of frantic searching, rescuers have confirmed the heartbreaking discovery.

An elite team of Finnish rescue divers located the bodies of Monica Montefalcone, 52, her 20-year-old daughter Giorgia Sommacal, Muriel Oddenino, 31, and Federico Gualtieri, 31, deep inside the cave on May 18, according to reports.

The group had disappeared four days earlier while exploring the underwater cavern network in the Maldives, sparking an intense international recovery mission.

The chilling rescue operation required highly specialized divers and equipment because the cave reportedly stretches nearly 500 feet underwater in some areas.

Authorities said local rescue teams struggled to safely reach the depths where the divers vanished, forcing officials to call in world-renowned cave recovery experts from Finland.

The elite rescue squad — Sami Paakkarinen, Jenni Westerlund, and Patrik Grönqvist — was reportedly assembled within 48 hours by Divers Alert Network Europe before being flown to the Maldives to assist in the desperate search.

The team is no stranger to high-risk rescues. The divers previously helped during the dramatic 2018 operation that saved a trapped Thai soccer team from a flooded cave system.

But this time, the ending was far more devastating.

The body of diving instructor Gianluca Benedetti, 44, had already been recovered days earlier on May 15, making the disaster even more grim.

Officials still have not determined exactly what caused the deaths of the five divers, and investigators are continuing to examine the horrifying incident.

Authorities also warned that recovering the bodies from inside the cave system remains extremely difficult because of the dangerous underwater conditions.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the diving community and renewed fears surrounding the infamous “Shark Cave,” which has long been considered one of the Maldives’ most treacherous dive sites.

The horrifying disaster comes just weeks after another high-profile water tragedy involving Brazilian influencer and endurance athlete Mara Flávia.

The 38-year-old social media personality disappeared during the swimming portion of Ironman Texas in April after entering the water with hundreds of competitors.

Rescue crews launched a frantic search in near-zero visibility before eventually finding her body nearly 10 feet below the surface hours later.

Both tragedies have sparked fresh concerns over the dangers of extreme water sports and deep-sea exploration.
