The terrifying disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother just took another bizarre twist.

Authorities in Arizona confirmed that a human bone discovered near the Tucson home of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie sparked immediate concern — but investigators now say the remains are not connected to the haunting case that has gripped the country for months.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office revealed the bone was determined to be human, but officials believe it is ancient and not tied to any crime.

“The University of Arizona’s Anthropology Department and the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner assisted. This is not a criminal investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, adding that a “prehistoric anthropological investigation” is now underway.

The shocking discovery briefly reignited fears surrounding the mysterious vanishing of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show star Savannah Guthrie, who disappeared sometime between late Jan. 31 and early Feb. 1 from her Tucson residence.

Nancy was last seen after a family member dropped her off at home on Jan. 31. Then she seemingly vanished without a trace.

Investigators have repeatedly suggested the elderly woman may have been specifically targeted before her disappearance, adding even more mystery to the already chilling case.

So far, no suspects have been identified and authorities still have no clear answers about who may have taken her — or why.

The disturbing mystery has fueled intense speculation online, especially after criminal profilers weighed in during a one-hour NewsNation documentary hosted by senior correspondent Brian Entin. Several experts suggested the person responsible may already be dead, a theory that has only deepened the intrigue surrounding the baffling disappearance.

Despite the unsettling bone discovery being ruled unrelated, the case remains one of the most disturbing missing persons investigations in recent memory — with Nancy Guthrie still missing more than three months later.

And for Savannah Guthrie and her family, the nightmare is far from over.
