A horrifying incident unfolded in Hong Kong after a woman fell from the upper level of a luxury hotel, killing herself and injuring multiple people standing on the street below.

According to local reports, the tragedy happened Monday morning at Hotel Indigo in the city’s busy Wan Chai district.

Police were first called to the scene around 9 a.m. after hotel staff reported that people had allegedly fallen from the property.

Authorities later confirmed that only one person — a 69-year-old American woman — had fallen.

Investigators say the woman reportedly plunged from the hotel’s 29th-floor pool deck onto the crowded street below.

According to reports, she had been staying at the hotel with her husband.

Police sources told local media the woman had allegedly struggled with depression and had reportedly stopped taking medication earlier this year.

Her husband had reportedly left the hotel around 8 a.m. to visit a doctor shortly before the incident occurred.

Authorities say the woman later went to the rooftop pool area before falling just after 9 a.m.

The woman died at the scene after striking a female pedestrian below during the fall.

The passerby survived but suffered injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The terrifying impact also sent shattered glass flying through the area, injuring several more people nearby.

Among those hurt were a 40-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son, who were reportedly struck by broken glass.

In total, seven people on the ground were injured during the incident, including at least one person who suffered serious injuries.

Emergency crews quickly flooded the area as shocked witnesses gathered outside the hotel.

Authorities have not publicly released the woman’s identity.

Police are continuing to investigate exactly what happened.
