A disturbing federal case is sending shockwaves through Washington after authorities say a Chicago man made explicit threats to assassinate President Donald Trump — and even targeted his teenage son in a series of graphic messages.

According to the Justice Department, 29-year-old Michael Kovco allegedly contacted both the White House and the CIA with chilling promises to carry out a deadly ambush. Investigators say the threats stretched back months, culminating in a barrage of alarming communications as recently as March 2026.

In one message, the suspect allegedly claimed he would carry out an assassination using a high-powered sniper rifle, describing a plan to target the president on the White House lawn. Authorities say the language used was not vague — it was direct, detailed, and deeply disturbing.

Even more shocking, prosecutors say the threats extended to Trump’s 19-year-old son, Barron Trump, with the suspect allegedly making violent and explicit statements about tracking him down.

Federal documents reveal the man also warned he would attack U.S. Secret Service agents, threatening retaliation if law enforcement approached him. In one message, he allegedly vowed to “hunt” agents and target their workplaces if they attempted to intervene.

The situation escalated rapidly after federal agents visited the suspect’s Chicago home to investigate earlier threats. Officials say new messages were sent just hours after that visit — raising serious concerns about his intent and state of mind.

Authorities were able to quickly identify the suspect after he reportedly included his own contact information in the messages, giving investigators a direct trail to follow.

Kovco was arrested on April 3 and formally charged days later with transmitting threats across state lines. If convicted, he could face up to five years in federal prison.

The case underscores the ongoing security challenges surrounding the presidency, as threats — both credible and unhinged — continue to surface in an increasingly volatile climate.

  1. Michael Kovco in due for a hanging. A civilized society cannot let such criminal death threats go unpunished. (www.michaelbray.org)

  2. This all stems from democrats. I think anyone who threatens another person no matter who should get more than five years. I don’t care who you are if you threaten another’s life then deserve to be behind bars. Never allow them to own a gun ever again. Never let them have privileges of voting. Never allowed to have a social media account. To many democrats have gotten by with threatening President Trump yet no accountability for them, why? Democrats have to be held accountable also. They are the ones who said no one is above the law. Let’s hold them to their own words.
