Meghan Markle is facing another round of online backlash — and this time it’s all about a courtside moment that critics are calling “awkward” and “embarrassing.”

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, attended the NBA All-Star Game with Prince Harry, 41, at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. What should have been a fun celebrity date night quickly turned into viral fodder after a clip showed Meghan repeatedly rubbing Harry’s arm while cameras hovered nearby.

In the now widely shared footage, Harry appeared deep in conversation with comedian Chris Tucker before the game tipped off. The two men exchanged smiles and friendly pats on the arm. When Harry returned to his seat next to Meghan, however, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a shift.

As cameras panned in their direction, Meghan leaned toward her husband, rested her head briefly on his shoulder — and then began rubbing his arm up and down as he stared ahead. Moments later, Harry seemed to realize they were on-screen, flashing a wide grin and giving a thumbs-up to the camera.

That split-second change didn’t go unnoticed.

Online commenters were quick to weigh in, with some suggesting the gesture looked more like a signal than spontaneous affection. One viral comment joked that the motion resembled “rubbing a magic lamp.” Another sarcastically compared it to “Pavlovian conditioning.”

The couple’s public displays of affection have long drawn attention, with critics dubbing Meghan’s frequent hand-holding and arm-grabbing “The Claw.” Supporters, of course, argue it’s simply a sign of closeness — but the debate continues to flare up whenever the pair step out together.

The NBA moment came just one day after Meghan shared a rare glimpse of daughter Lilibet in a Valentine’s Day Instagram post.

In the photo, Harry holds 4-year-old Lilibet in his arms as she clutches red heart-shaped balloons. For the first time, much of the little girl’s face was visible — a notable shift from past posts where her features were partially hidden or shown only from behind.

“These two + Archie = my forever Valentines,” Meghan captioned the post, referencing both Lilibet and their son Archie, 6 — though Archie did not appear in the image.

The reveal sparked fresh conversation because Harry has previously warned about the dangers of posting children’s photos online. In a 2025 podcast appearance, he urged parents to be “really, really worried, concerned, and cautious” about sharing images of their kids on social media, particularly amid growing concerns about AI and digital manipulation.

While Harry himself does not maintain public social media accounts, Meghan has increased her online presence since returning to Instagram in early 2025, frequently sharing curated family moments.

For royal watchers, the timing — a PDA-filled courtside appearance followed by a rare family reveal — only fueled chatter about the couple’s public image strategy.

Whether it was an innocent nudge for the camera or something more calculated, one thing is certain: when Meghan and Harry step out, the internet is always watching.

    1. I do not see a comment from Dorothea Williams, but I just want to ask people if they have a life? Stop the criticism of Megan and Harry, leave them alone..they are who they are and that is harmless, just trying to manage their lives like everyone else is trying to do in the crappy times. Stop the negative, critical comments and look at your own crappy lives that make you so perfect.
