NBA legend Michael Jordan is at the center of a growing online firestorm after a jaw-dropping moment at the Daytona 500 left viewers stunned — and social media in meltdown mode.

The 62-year-old icon was caught on camera during Sunday’s race appearing to tug at the shirt of a young boy near his lower back and briefly brush the backs of his legs. The child was later identified as Beau, the 6-year-old son of NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick.

The boy didn’t visibly react beyond a quick glance backward. But online? The reaction was explosive.

Within hours, the clip was everywhere — with some users questioning whether it had been manipulated, and others blasting the interaction as “creepy” and “inappropriate.”

“That’s not okay unless that’s his kid,” one person wrote.

Another posted, “I seriously had to replay it. What was that?”

Some commenters pointed to today’s heightened scrutiny surrounding celebrities and children, arguing that public figures should avoid even the appearance of crossing boundaries.

The timing only added fuel to the outrage, as critics claimed that in the current cultural climate, even a split-second misstep can spiral into a PR nightmare.

Not everyone saw something sinister.

A wave of supporters insisted the moment was being wildly overanalyzed. Some claimed the boy’s shirt appeared wet — possibly from a spilled drink — and suggested Jordan may have been brushing off ice or trying to help.

Others argued that what looked strange on camera could have been an innocent, awkward gesture frozen at the wrong angle.

Still, the debate rages on.

Jordan wasn’t just attending the race as a celebrity guest. The basketball titan co-founded 23XI Racing with driver Denny Hamlin and has become a major presence in the NASCAR world.

Before the race, he spoke confidently about his team’s chances, saying they had “good leaders” and expressing hope that one of their four cars would finish strong.

But instead of race results, it’s that now-viral clip dominating headlines.

As of publication, Jordan has not addressed the controversy.

One thing is certain: in an era where every move is recorded and replayed in slow motion, even the smallest gesture can ignite a full-blown public reckoning.
