Alt-rock singer Evan Dando has been hospitalized for mental health treatment following explosive allegations that he sent explicit, unsolicited videos to a female fan.

Dando, 58, the founder of The Lemonheads, was admitted to a local hospital on Thursday, according to a statement from his representative.

“Evan Dando has long struggled with mental health issues dating back to his childhood,” the statement read. “He’s been admitted to a local hospital where he’s receiving comprehensive help from experienced doctors and mental health professionals.”

The hospitalization came just hours after a detailed account surfaced online from a woman who claims Dando sent her sexually explicit videos without her consent.

The allegations were published on The Underground Bunker, a site run by former Scientologist Tony Ortega. While the site typically focuses on Scientology investigations, Ortega wrote that he was approached by the woman’s husband, who said the couple felt “grossed out” and unsure how to handle the situation.

The woman, identified under the pseudonym “Dawn,” said she had briefly exchanged messages with Dando years ago and reached out again last October to congratulate him on The Lemonheads’ first album in two decades, Love Chant. She claims she received no response until recently — when Dando allegedly messaged her late at night before sending explicit videos of himself.

According to the account, Dando first sent a message referencing being “an exhibitionist.” Soon after, she says she woke up to find multiple direct messages, including a graphic video. A second video allegedly followed the next day, along with a message reading, “Ok sorry thanks I just need an outlet Cheers.”

“I’ve never felt anger like that,” the woman told Ortega. “Don’t call me an outlet — that’s gross. I don’t want him to do this to anyone else.”

Screenshots and copies of the videos were reportedly captured before Dando temporarily deactivated his X account. The account has since disappeared again. The woman said she also contacted TMZ before eventually turning to The Underground Bunker.

Dando has long been open about his battles with addiction and mental health struggles. In his 2025 memoir, Rumors of My Demise, he wrote candidly about years of heroin addiction, financial hardship, and deteriorating health.

“I was in horrible shape, losing teeth,” he wrote, describing a period when he survived on fast food, cigarettes, sports drinks, and a daily drug budget.

The latest controversy now casts a shadow over what had been a comeback chapter for the singer, whose return to recording with The Lemonheads was seen by fans as a hopeful new era.

As of Friday morning, Dando has not issued a personal statement.
