Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil is opening up about a terrifying health battle that almost silenced his legendary rock voice for good.
The 64-year-old singer shocked fans on Friday by revealing that he suffered a stroke in his sleep on Christmas night, leaving him temporarily unable to walk — and doctors feared he might never take the stage again.
“They didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage,” Neil recalled. “I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.’”
The stroke struck without warning as Neil slept, wiping out movement on the entire left side of his body. What followed was a grueling journey few fans knew about — one that sidelined the band’s Las Vegas residency and left Neil fighting to regain basic functions.
“I had to learn to walk again,” he said. “That was tough.”
At first, Neil couldn’t even make it to the bathroom on his own. He had to be carried, then moved to a wheelchair, and slowly progressed to using a walker, then a cane.
Today, he’s walking freely — no support needed.
“It’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again,” he admitted. “But I’m back, I’m 90-, 95-percent to where I was before.”
In March, Mötley Crüe postponed their long-awaited Las Vegas residency so Neil could undergo a medical procedure and focus on recovery. The original run, scheduled for March 28 through April 19 at Park MGM, was pushed to the fall.
“To all the Crüeheads who were looking forward to see us this Spring — I’m truly sorry,” Neil said at the time. “My health is my top priority so I can bring you the awesome shows you deserve.”
He thanked fans for their support, adding, “Your support means more than you know.”
The band also released a statement urging fans to “join us in wishing Vince a speedy recovery” and promising a powerful return to the Vegas stage in September.
Neil’s recovery took place at his Nashville home, where he worked with physical therapists and even enlisted a football coach to help rebuild his strength.
The “Home Sweet Home” rocker credits that support system — and his sheer will — for getting him through.
The stroke came just one month after a private jet linked to Neil crashed in Scottsdale, Arizona, killing the pilot. Though Vince wasn’t on board, his then-girlfriend Rain Hannah and another passenger were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
“While details are still emerging, our hearts go out to the families about the pilot who lost his life,” the band said in a statement at the time.
In May, Neil and Rain Hannah reportedly ended their 15-year relationship. Sources say the split followed allegations of infidelity, adding personal heartbreak to an already harrowing year.
Now, as Mötley Crüe prepares to hit the stage again, Vince Neil says he’s ready — stronger than ever.
“I’m back,” he declared. “And it’s going to be great.”
