Erika Kirk is facing intense backlash after alleged leaked audio shared by Candace Owens appeared to capture the widow speaking in an upbeat, even giggling tone about her late husband Charlie Kirk’s funeral — referring to it as the “event of the century.”
The audio, which has not been independently verified, is said to come from an internal call with staffers at Turning Point USA just 11 days after Charlie was assassinated. In the recording, Erika allegedly boasts about massive attendance numbers, merchandise sales, and voter registrations tied to the memorial.

“I don’t even know where to begin,” she says in the clip, sounding cheerful. “The fact that we were able to pull off an event of the century is just insane. We had over 275,000 people attend, with stadium overflow — west gate. Insane.”
She goes on to claim that as many as 100 million people were reached, adding that thousands registered to vote and merchandise sales were nearing $200,000 — figures she admits were still climbing at the time.
The tone of the audio is what has stunned critics most. Erika is allegedly heard laughing while praising the scale of the event and the work done behind the scenes, saying staffers pulled 20-hour days and barely slept while helping organize the memorial.
She repeatedly thanks various teams for their efforts, calling them “breathing angels” and “the most incredible team,” while framing the funeral as a moment that showcased the organization’s strength and future.
At one point, Erika reportedly urges staff to squash any lingering personal conflicts. “My husband’s dead,” she says matter-of-factly. “I’m not trying to be morbid, but he’s dead. It puts life into perspective.”
She then signals that the organization is pushing ahead, saying “Turning Point USA 2.0” is moving forward with Charlie “in our hearts,” adding that this is what he would have wanted.
After Owens shared the audio publicly, social media erupted with criticism. Many listeners said the upbeat delivery felt disturbing given the timing, with one commenter asking how a newly widowed mother could sound “cheerful” while discussing her husband’s death.
Others zeroed in on the talk of merchandise and numbers, calling it “gross,” “sick,” and “insane,” with several saying the clip gave them “the ick.”
As of now, neither Erika Kirk nor Turning Point USA has publicly commented on the authenticity or context of the alleged recording.
