“I was pretty much on my knees,” Brad Pitt admits as 2025 becomes the year Hollywood finally opens up about life after alcohol.
The stars are getting brutally honest about their battles with booze — and how sobriety changed everything.
From Brad Pitt’s AA awakening to Miley Cyrus’ spiritual clarity, a wave of A-listers have stepped forward in 2025 to share raw, unfiltered stories of what it really took to get sober… and stay that way.
As “Dry January” gains popularity each year, these celebs are ditching the shame and spilling what finally made them stop drinking — and how sobriety turned their lives around.
Oscar winner Brad Pitt didn’t hold back when he told Dax Shepard just how bad things had gotten before he turned to Alcoholics Anonymous in 2016.
“I was pretty much on my knees… trying anything and everyone,” Pitt said. “I needed rebooting. I needed to wake the f— up.”
What he found in those early AA meetings stunned him: “Men sharing their aches, their humor, their wants… I thought it was a really special experience.”
Since his brutal split from Angelina Jolie, Pitt has kept a low profile, but says those meetings gave him hope. “It just meant a lot to me,” he admitted.
Miley has never shied away from honesty — but in 2025, she took it to a whole new level.
“I like showing up 100%, 100% of the time,” the Grammy-winning star told CBS News. “Now I get to trim out so much of the prep just to function.”
Cyrus first quit drinking in 2020, and by 2025, she told Zane Lowe her sobriety is sacred. “It’s like my God. I live for it. It’s changed my entire life.”
And she’s not just staying sober — she’s thriving. “I like who I am. I like what I’m doing. I think what I’m doing is cool. That actually feels good.”
Spider-Man star Tom Holland shocked fans when he celebrated 3.5 years sober this year — and admitted that his drinking had quietly spiraled.
“One drink and I was fine… and then I’d go too far,” he told Men’s Health.
After giving up alcohol for “Dry January” in 2022, Holland realized he didn’t want to go back. “Every Friday was a write-off,” he confessed. “I would drink enough to ruin the next day.”
Now, he’s embracing a totally new life — and says he’s never felt better.
For Drew Barrymore, quitting drinking in 2019 wasn’t just about the alcohol — it was about facing herself.
“I wanted to numb my pain… I didn’t realize the chemical warfare it was causing,” the talk show host told Us Weekly in March.
It wasn’t easy. But six years later, Drew says the change was life-altering.
Cooper revealed that fellow actor Will Arnett gave him a brutal wake-up call back in 2004 — and it saved his life.
“He took the risk of having that hard conversation,” Cooper said in a Hollywood Reporter interview. “It’s truly Will Arnett… he’s the reason I changed.”
Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale marked three years sober with an emotional Instagram post this year.
“Damn,” she wrote. “I’ve experienced moments that can only be described as pure miracles and magic… To anyone struggling, keep going. You’re not alone.”
While red carpet glamour and wild afterparties used to be the norm, 2025 is showing a new side of fame — one that embraces vulnerability, healing, and clarity.
Whether it’s Pitt’s rock-bottom reboot, Miley’s sober joy, or Tom Holland’s quiet confidence, one thing is clear: The “sober era” in Hollywood isn’t just a trend. It’s a revolution.
