Prince William and Kate Middleton may still be one step away from the British throne, but behind palace walls, their growing influence is already causing tension — and King Charles isn’t entirely pleased, according to royal insiders.

King Charles III, 77, ascended to the throne in 2022 after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, following her historic 70-year reign. After waiting more than seven decades to finally become king, sources say Charles is uneasy about how much attention has shifted to what comes next.

“He doesn’t feel great about it,” one insider told Us Weekly. “He waited his whole life for this role, and now that he’s king, everyone is focused on who will follow him.”

That focus, of course, is squarely on Prince William, 43, and Kate Middleton, who are widely seen as the future of the monarchy — and possibly its reformers.

Despite reports suggesting William is quietly pulling strings, palace sources insist Charles remains firmly in control.

“No power has been relinquished to William,” another insider claimed. “William has his own office and staff, separate from the king, and they work closely together. Charles believes William will do an incredible job as king and is very supportive. When they disagree, William respects his father’s decisions.”

Still, William is said to be preparing for a very different kind of reign.

Royal commentator Kristen Meinzer told the outlet that while some claim William is “running things from the shadows,” the reality is more nuanced. Charles, she said, “is still very much in charge,” but William is actively shaping a long-term vision for the monarchy’s future.

Kate, 43, is reportedly standing firmly by her husband as they plan what that future might look like. Earlier this year, the Princess of Wales revealed she is in remission following her own cancer battle and has gradually returned to public life.

“They’re basically creating their version of what a new monarchy will look like,” a source said. “They are completely modernizing it. Antiquated rules will change. There will be more freedom in how the Firm is run.”

Charles, who underwent a prostate procedure last year and later revealed he was diagnosed with cancer, offered a hopeful update in December, announcing that his treatment would be scaled back in the new year.

  1. Maybe if he was more of man. Sorry but he doesn’t deserve his position after his marriage to the Princess Diana. You darkened the royal steps with your affair. They so called wife now doesn’t deserve to be anything. Maybe you should have shown how royals really act not how you did act. So know your son has his own mind and what he thinks needs to do. You did so stop judging him. You make the example for him. I’m sorry you have cancer. But in reality William and Kate are just preparing unlike you did. Seems the royal family still has a couple who takes their positions seriously. Your people will see the difference from you to them. Your mother the queen was a great women and understood her role. You embarrassed her, but William and Kate understood the queen and she understood them. They will great for your country and people.
