Visitors hoping for a magical holiday moment at Disneyland Paris were met with overflowing garbage and clanging trash cans instead.

The park’s entrance — normally spotless and sparkling with Christmas decor — was littered with trash this week as sanitation workers launched a loud protest demanding better working conditions. Videos posted to social media show employees banging on bins and chanting near the gates as bewildered families looked on.

According to Walt Disney World News Today, the demonstrators work for a third-party cleaning company contracted by Disneyland Paris. They claim management has set “unrealistic goals” that have made their jobs unbearable. Security was present during the ruckus, though witnesses say police were nowhere in sight.

The chaotic scene was a far cry from the park’s festive vibe, with garlands, ornaments, and twinkling lights serving as the backdrop to the trash-strewn pathways.

This isn’t the first time Paris park staff have rebelled — a similar protest took place in 2019 — but the timing couldn’t be worse. Disneyland Paris is deep into its holiday season and gearing up for the grand opening of its new Frozen-themed land next March.

The expansion, part of the rebrand to Disney Adventure World, will feature Elsa’s Ice Palace, Nordic-inspired restaurants and boutiques, and even a high-tech roaming Olaf animatronic designed to interact with guests.

Disneyland Paris has yet to comment on the trash-filled protest — but for now, the “Happiest Place on Earth” looks a little less magical and a lot more messy.
