Rachael Carpani, the beloved Australian actress known for her roles on McLeod’s Daughters and Home and Away, has tragically died at just 45 years old.
Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news on Instagram, revealing that although Rachael had been battling a chronic illness, her passing earlier this month came “unexpectedly but peacefully.”
“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday, December 7,” her parents shared in a statement.
Carpani rose to fame playing Jodi Fountain in nearly 180 episodes of McLeod’s Daughters between 2001 and 2009 — a role that made her one of Australia’s most recognizable TV stars. In recent years, she appeared in Home and Away, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Glades, and even starred alongside Ben Affleck in the 2020 sports drama The Way Back.
In a 2023 interview, the actress admitted she moved to the U.S. in part to escape the shadow of her most iconic role. “I didn’t want to be just known as Jodi from McLeod’s Daughters,” she told 7News at the time.
Carpani’s death has sent shockwaves through both the Australian entertainment world and fans abroad, many of whom grew up watching her on TV. Tributes have flooded social media, remembering her as a warm, funny, and deeply talented performer whose presence lit up the screen.
Rachael Carpani is survived by her parents and close friends who say her legacy will live on through her unforgettable work and the countless fans she inspired.
