Sherrone Moore, 39, was arrested Wednesday night in Pittsfield Township, Michigan, on allegations of assault, according to the Associated Press. The father of three was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail less than a day after being fired as head coach of the Wolverines.
Earlier that same day, university officials announced Moore’s termination following an internal investigation that uncovered what they called an “improper relationship” with a staff member.
“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement.
Moore, who signed a five-year, $5.5 million contract in 2024, reportedly won’t receive a payout for the remaining years because he was dismissed “for cause.”
The firing ends Moore’s two-season tenure leading Michigan’s powerhouse football program, during which he posted a 9–3 record this year.
Associate head coach Biff Poggi has been tapped as interim leader as the Wolverines gear up for the upcoming Citrus Bowl — though the shadow of Moore’s sudden downfall now looms large over the team’s postseason run.
