“Full House” fans remember Jodie Sweetin as bubbly middle child Stephanie Tanner — but behind that smile was a heartbreaking struggle that began far earlier than anyone knew.

During a revealing chat on The Skinny Confidential podcast, the now 43-year-old actress opened up about the moment everything changed — the night she had her very first drink at co-star Candace Cameron Bure’s wedding when she was just 14.

“I was a blackout drinker from the start,” Sweetin confessed. “It was awful, it was ugly, and my mom was horrified.”

She recalled sneaking glasses of wine during the reception. “They’d pour for the adults, and I’d be like, ‘I’ll take a little more, please.’ The next day I was horrified… but something clicked. I thought, ‘Ooh, that was fun.’”

That one “fun” night spiraled into years of addiction. By 15, she said she realized she “drank and partied in a way my friends did not.” When her peers told her to slow down, she started seeking out others who wouldn’t judge her behavior.

Sweetin eventually fell into a cycle of alcohol and drug use that included ecstasy, meth, and cocaine. “It numbed everything,” she said, recalling the painful end of Full House when she was just a teenager. “I didn’t know how to grieve losing that family. Drugs and alcohol just sort of numbed everything.”

Her darkest moments weren’t dramatic overdoses — they were the quiet times. “It was those moments alone when I just hated the person I had become.”

After years of struggling, Sweetin hit a turning point in December 2008. “I was flying to L.A., took a bunch of Nyquil, drank a ton, and when I got home, I got a call about an emergency custody investigation because of my drinking. That was it. From that day forward, I threw myself into AA.”

Now sober and thriving, Sweetin said she’s learned to embrace every lesson from her past. “We all have our demons,” she reflected in 2016. “When we finally learn to let them go, we get to live and be free.”

Even after decades, the child star’s story still resonates — a sobering reminder that fame and pain often grow up side by side.
