A quiet patch of woods outside Detroit turned into a real-life horror scene this week after a group of survey workers stumbled upon a human skull — completely stripped of teeth — lying in the dirt.

Police say the chilling discovery, made around 2 p.m. on Nov. 13 near Michigan Avenue and Newburgh Road in the city of Wayne, could be connected to an unsolved case from March, when more skeletal remains were uncovered in nearly the exact same spot.

“It’s possible these bones belong to the same person,” Wayne Police Deputy Chief Finley Carter III told reporters, calling the find “disturbing.” The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office is now rushing lab work to determine who the skull belonged to — and how they died.

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Carolyn Isaac said the discovery could finally help detectives build a full profile of the victim. “Once we have an idea of the biological profile — who this might match — we can start checking missing persons records, even matching CT scans or dental X-rays,” she explained.

The skull’s condition has only deepened the mystery. The March remains were never identified, and now, months later, another piece of the puzzle has literally surfaced from the ground — raising new questions about what happened in those woods and whether someone has been hiding dark secrets there all along.

Officials have not released a cause of death, but the investigation is being treated as active — and possibly criminal.

Police have sealed off the area while they search for more remains.
