A Pittsburgh Penguins fan is in the hospital after a terrifying fall at PPG Paints Arena on Sunday night. The incident occurred in the first period, shortly after Anthony Mantha scored the Penguins’ second goal against the Blues.

According to reports, the fan stumbled down the stairs between sections 201 and 234 before tumbling headfirst over the glass at the bottom of the concourse and into the lower bowl. He also collided with another fan in the suite level during the fall. Witnesses described the fall as the fan “cartwheeling right over the railing.”

The Penguins confirmed the incident, saying the fan was “immediately attended to by Pittsburgh EMS as well as PPG Paints Arena personnel” and was transported to a local hospital. Officials noted that they are closely monitoring the situation and keeping the fan and his family in their thoughts.

Social media photos show broken glass in the upper level where the fall began and first responders on the scene. According to The Athletic, the fan was taken to Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Despite the frightening accident, the game continued.

This marks the third major fall at a Pittsburgh sporting event this year. In April, Pirates fan Kavan Markwood fell onto the field at PNC Park after tumbling from the right field seats. Just this past Saturday, a stadium worker fell 50 feet off the scoreboard at Acrisure Stadium and is currently in critical condition.
