Woody Allen just can’t seem to stay out of controversy — and this time, it’s not about his past. The 89-year-old filmmaker has reportedly been “frozen out of Hollywood for good” after shocking fans by saying he’d love to direct Donald Trump again.

During a recent chat on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Allen called the former president “a pleasure to work with” and “a very good actor.”

“I’m one of the few people who can say he directed Trump,” Allen said, referring to his 1998 film Celebrity. “He was very polite, hit his mark, did everything correctly, and had a real flair for show business. I could direct him now — if he’d let me.”

But according to insiders, that offhand remark has detonated like a Hollywood bomb.

“Woody thought he was just making a filmmaking comment, but people went ballistic,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “He’s already been struggling to get projects off the ground, and now even his oldest supporters are backing away.”

Allen’s 2023 movie Coup de Chance — filmed in French and produced entirely in Europe — came after U.S. studios refused to finance him. He’d hoped to make a smaller American film next year, but insiders say that dream’s looking bleak.

“He’s basically been blacklisted for years,” said one industry insider. “But praising Trump? That might’ve sealed it. Hollywood’s liberal crowd sees Trump as untouchable — and now, so is Woody.”

“I Don’t Agree With His Politics — But He Was a Pro”

Despite the uproar, Allen insists he’s not a Trump supporter. The Annie Hall director said he voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 and disagrees with “99 percent” of Trump’s policies.

“I can only judge what I know from directing him in film,” he said. “He was pleasant, very professional, very polite to everyone. I’d love to direct him again — but that’s not going to happen.”

Even so, left-leaning fans and fellow filmmakers weren’t buying it.

“For people in Hollywood, even a neutral comment about Trump is seen as dangerous,” one producer said. “Woody’s always liked being provocative, but this time, it hit a nerve.”

Controversy Is Nothing New for Allen

The blowback comes as Allen continues to battle the cloud of long-standing sexual abuse allegations from his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow — claims he has consistently denied.

He’s admitted he’s “on the fence” about making another film, saying the process of finding financing has become “a pain in the neck.”

“If someone shows up and says they want to back the film, I’d seriously consider it,” Allen said. But at this point, it seems no one in Hollywood is lining up to write that check.
