Alec Baldwin just can’t stay out of trouble — or the headlines.
The 67-year-old actor was caught on camera ramming his white Range Rover straight into a tree in the Hamptons on Monday after what he described as a close call with a “garbage truck the size of a whale.”
The accident happened around noon as Baldwin drove along Montauk Highway with his brother Stephen, 57, riding shotgun. Police say the actor swerved to avoid a massive National Waste Services truck that suddenly veered in front of him — and ended up totaling his wife Hilaria’s 2023 Range Rover.
“I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car — my wife’s car,” Baldwin said in an Instagram video afterward. “I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine. I’m fine, and my brother’s fine.”
Caught on Camera
Dashcam footage obtained by Newsmax shows the garbage truck making a wide right turn onto Montauk Highway, followed by Baldwin’s SUV barreling into a roadside tree seconds later.
Newsmax claimed the video contradicted Baldwin’s story, but police say it supports his version — noting that the truck did swing left before making its right turn, forcing Baldwin to react.
“There were no injuries reported or summons issued,” East Hampton Police Chief Michael Sarlo told TMZ, adding that slippery road conditions also played a role in the crash.
The Aftermath
Photos show Baldwin, phone in hand, inspecting the wrecked Range Rover while his brother stands nearby in camouflage. The actor appeared shaken but unhurt.
Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria — who recently said she was “bullied” off Dancing with the Stars — quickly reassured fans with her own Instagram post. “He’s OK, Stephen’s OK, everybody’s OK and no one was hurt,” she said. “That’s the most important thing.”
A Troubled History
The company behind the garbage truck, National Waste Services, has faced nearly a dozen lawsuits since 2017 for alleged crashes involving its drivers. Most have been settled or dismissed.
As for Baldwin, the Hamptons mishap adds to his long list of public dramas — from the Rust shooting fallout to his ongoing court battles. But for now, he insists this latest crash was simply bad luck, not bad driving.
“Crashes are for closers,” he quipped in his video — channeling one of his most famous movie lines with his trademark mix of sarcasm and defiance.
