Jay Cutler, the former NFL star once married to reality TV personality Kristin Cavallari, is spending the week behind bars in Tennessee after pleading guilty to a DUI charge.

The 42-year-old ex-quarterback reported to the Williamson County Jail in Franklin on Monday to begin serving a four-day sentence. Prosecutors agreed to drop a weapons charge in exchange for his guilty plea to misdemeanor DUI.

The case dates back to October 2024, when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle in Franklin. Police at the scene said he was slurring his words and refused to perform field sobriety tests. Officers later drew blood at a local hospital, confirming their suspicions.

What shocked police most, however, was the discovery of two firearms in Cutler’s vehicle — one loaded — while he was allegedly intoxicated. That finding initially brought additional charges, including reckless driving, unlawful firearm possession, and violating implied consent laws.

“He was clearly impaired and putting lives at risk,” one law enforcement source familiar with the arrest said at the time.

Cutler struck a plea bargain earlier this year, cutting the potential jail time significantly. In addition to four days behind bars, he will pay a $350 fine, serve a year of unsupervised probation, attend a DUI safety course, and surrender his license for 12 months.

Beyond the courtroom, Cutler’s name has remained in headlines for his bitter split from Kristin Cavallari. The pair, who divorced in 2020 after seven years of marriage, share three children: Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9.

Their public back-and-forth has been fiery. Just weeks ago, Cavallari claimed on her podcast that she “never got a penny” in their divorce. Cutler fired back on his own show, calling the claim “reckless” and “borderline slander.”

“It’s insanity and it’s completely false, completely untrue,” Cutler said. “I’ve got a divorce decree — 67 pages long — that lays out exactly how it was split.”

Cutler’s fall from grace contrasts sharply with his years on the field. Drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2006, he went on to a 12-season career, including eight years with the Chicago Bears and a final season with the Miami Dolphins. He threw for more than 35,000 yards and earned over $128 million in contracts.

Now, instead of leading an offense, the former Pro Bowl quarterback is spending his days in a Tennessee jail cell.

“Jay’s story is a cautionary tale,” a former teammate told a Nashville sports radio show Monday. “You can go from being the face of a franchise to facing time behind bars. It happens fast.”
