Sarah Ferguson just can’t catch a break. The Duchess of York, 65, is once again drowning in royal drama as two of her biggest scandals collide—her ties to Jeffrey Epstein and her infamous affair while pregnant with Princess Eugenie.
Fresh outrage erupted this week after a 2011 email surfaced in which Ferguson bizarrely called Epstein her “supreme friend” and even appeared to apologize for once criticizing him. The fallout was swift: multiple charities quickly distanced themselves from her.
And now, insiders say the Epstein backlash has dragged her decades-old affair with Texan businessman Steve Wyatt back into the gossip cycle—an explosive relationship that nearly destroyed her marriage to Prince Andrew.
“History is repeating itself,” one palace source told reporters. “Back then it was the pregnancy affair, now it’s Epstein. It’s always one scandal after another with Sarah, and people inside the palace are questioning if she can ever come back from this.”
Ferguson, who married Andrew in 1986 and had daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, has long admitted her loneliness while her naval officer husband was away. During her first pregnancy, she spent months alone after Prince Philip reportedly barred her from joining Andrew on postings. That isolation set the stage for Wyatt, who swept her off her feet in Houston in 1989.
“She was in a vulnerable place,” a former confidante said. “Steve charmed her completely, and she fell head over heels.”
Though the affair fizzled when Wyatt became engaged to another woman, the damage was done. By 1992, Ferguson was caught in another bombshell scandal when she was photographed having her toes sucked by financial adviser John Bryan—images that rocked Buckingham Palace and pushed the Queen to announce her separation from Andrew.
Still, the pair stayed unusually close. Even today, Sarah and Andrew continue to share Royal Lodge despite his own disgrace over Epstein.
But the resurfaced email could finally tip the balance. “It’s déjà vu for the royal family,” a palace insider warned. “She was once exiled for embarrassing the monarchy—and now, between Epstein and the return of her past affair, it’s happening all over again.”
