It’s the royal scandal no one saw coming—again.
Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York and ex-wife of Prince Andrew, is under fire after newly revealed emails show her praising convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—just days after publicly distancing herself from him. But now, her team claims she only sent the message out of fear for her family’s safety.
And the fallout has been swift.
In a 2011 email that surfaced in British media this week, Ferguson referred to Epstein as a “steadfast, generous and supreme friend.” This shocking praise came just days after she had denounced their relationship in a televised interview, calling her association with the disgraced financier a “gigantic error of judgment.”
So what changed?
According to her longtime spokesman James Henderson, Epstein made chilling threats against Ferguson and the entire York family. Henderson described the conversation with Epstein as “menacing,” noting that Epstein spoke in a “cold, Hannibal Lecter-type voice.”
“He said he would destroy the York family,” Henderson recalled. “He said he would destroy me.”
At the time, Ferguson had gone on record condemning Epstein’s crimes and vowed to repay a $20,000 loan he had given her years earlier. She stated clearly: “What he did was wrong… I abhor pedophilia and any sexual abuse of children.”
But it appears Epstein wasn’t willing to be so easily dismissed. The leaked email suggests Ferguson tried to placate him behind the scenes—allegedly to protect herself and her loved ones.
The backlash has been swift and punishing. Six prominent U.K. charities have already severed ties with Ferguson since the email came to light. Among them: the Teenage Cancer Trust, the British Heart Foundation, and Julia’s House, a children’s hospice where Ferguson had served as a patron since 2018.
Julia’s House released a statement saying it would be “inappropriate” for Ferguson to continue representing them after her private words to Epstein were made public.
Another charity, the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, said it was “disturbed” by her correspondence and decided to cut ties immediately.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Epstein’s name has rocked the royal family. Ferguson’s ex-husband, Prince Andrew, has also been linked to Epstein for years—and the damage to his reputation has been profound.
Andrew, 65, was forced to step down from his royal duties in 2019 after a disastrous BBC interview in which he claimed he couldn’t recall ever meeting Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre—despite photographic evidence. The public wasn’t buying it, and neither was Buckingham Palace.
Now, it seems Sarah Ferguson is the latest royal facing the consequences of past connections to Epstein.
For older Americans watching the ongoing soap opera that is the British royal family, this latest chapter adds yet another layer of intrigue—and controversy. The Duchess of York, once known for her charm and charity work, now finds herself fighting to protect her reputation after one damning email.
Whether she was truly coerced or made a misstep in judgment, the damage is done—and the charities are walking away.
