A mom of three is warning others after a simple pimple pop landed her in urgent care — and could have killed her.
Lish Marie, known as @lishmarie1 on TikTok, thought she was just dealing with a stubborn cyst under her nostril. But within hours of squeezing it, the right side of her face swelled dramatically and her smile became crooked. Doctors quickly put her on four medications, including steroids and antibiotics, to fight a dangerous infection.
The spot she popped was in the so-called “triangle of death” — the area from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Experts say the veins there connect directly to the brain, which means bacteria from a pimple can travel to the cavernous sinus, leading to serious complications like blindness, stroke, paralysis, or even death.
“I think I caught mine extremely quick,” Lish said, noting she was feeling better after 24 hours but still had a crooked smile. By day three, she was back to normal — but others in the comments shared harrowing stories of week-long hospital stays, surgeries, and near-death experiences from similar infections.
Dermatologists warn against touching pimples in the danger zone at all. If you absolutely must, they recommend sterilizing the area, using a diabetic lancet to make a tiny opening, and applying gentle pressure with cotton swabs — but stress that it’s safest to leave those blemishes alone or see a professional.
As Lish put it, “Really, don’t mess with it. Spot treat it or go to a derm.”

Lance it, gently squeeze it, and then put antibiotic on… don’t apply a lot of pressure and force the pus back inside the body…
