In a gruesome discovery that’s rattling even Mexico’s most hardened communities, authorities have uncovered the dismembered remains of at least 32 individuals inside an abandoned house in the cartel-ravaged state of Guanajuato.

The butchered body parts, many stuffed into plastic bags, were found last week during an ongoing search for the tens of thousands of Mexico’s missing. Officials now say only 15 of the victims have been identified—and fear the toll may rise.

“This was not just a crime scene,” one investigator told Noticias MX. “It was a massacre. A message.”

The home, located in the city of Irapuato, has been cordoned off by federal and state security forces. Forensics teams describe the remains as “fragmented and complex,” making the identification process painfully slow for families hoping to finally locate their loved ones.

“We hope to find our children here, even if it’s just a piece of them,” said one woman, who asked not to be named for fear of cartel retaliation. She is part of Hasta Encontrarte (“Until I Find You”), a volunteer group of relatives searching for Mexico’s disappeared.

Guanajuato, long known for its colonial charm and economic growth, has transformed into a battlefield between two ruthless cartels: the Santa Rosa de Lima gang and the ultra-violent Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The CJNG, which the Trump administration officially designated as a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year, has been linked to hundreds of killings across the region.

In 2024 alone, Guanajuato recorded over 3,100 murders—more than any other Mexican state. It also led the nation in missing persons reports, with more than 3,600 cases. As of today, Mexico’s official tally of the disappeared stands at a staggering 132,000.

Just three months ago, 17 bodies were found in another abandoned home in the very same city—Irapuato. Gunfire is a daily occurrence, and mass graves are unearthed with grim regularity.

In response to the escalating violence, President Donald Trump is pushing for expanded U.S. military cooperation with Mexico to dismantle cartel operations near the border and beyond.

“Our neighbors are under siege,” Trump said Monday during a press briefing. “These cartels aren’t just a Mexican problem—they are international terrorist organizations that threaten the safety of the entire Western Hemisphere, including the United States.”

Trump’s plan includes deploying additional military intelligence assets, providing high-tech surveillance support, and expanding joint counter-cartel operations under the Merida Initiative 2.0. Critics have warned the move could strain diplomatic relations, but Trump doubled down.

“Enough is enough,” he said. “When you find 32 mutilated bodies in one house, it’s time to call it what it is: narco-terrorism.”

This year alone, Guanajuato has witnessed:

  • A mass shooting at a neighborhood party in June that left 11 dead
  • The murder of a local official at a children’s basketball game
  • A January gun battle that killed 10 suspected cartel members and injured three police officers
  • The execution of seven civilians, including children, with banners left behind referencing Santa Rosa de Lima

Each massacre adds to the trauma of families already crushed by loss—and uncertainty.

“We won’t stop searching until we find them,” said another Hasta Encontrarte member, clutching a worn photo of her missing son. “Even if we have to dig with our bare hands.”

As the violence deepens, many are asking whether Mexico can control its own territory—or if outside intervention is now inevitable.

President Trump has hinted that more direct action may be coming.

“If the Mexican government can’t secure its cities,” he warned, “then we will help them do it. America will not stand by while terror builds just across our border.”

  1. Democrats ! Sounds like Trump, always blaming someone else. Your comment is about as stupid as anything I’ve seen this year. How ignorant !
