Oscar-nominated actor Gary Busey, 81, has pleaded guilty to criminal sexual contact after a disturbing incident at a horror movie convention in New Jersey.
During a virtual court appearance on Thursday, Busey admitted to inappropriately touching a woman at the Monster-Mania Convention held at the Doubletree Hotel in Camden on August 13, 2022. “It was not an accidental touching,” Busey told the judge. He reportedly struggled to follow the hearing, even with hearing aids, according to CourtTV.
At least three women accused Busey of groping them during a fan photo op. One woman claimed Busey placed his face near her chest and asked where she “got them” before allegedly trying to undo her bra.
Initially, Busey denied the allegations. But police affidavits obtained by The Philadelphia Inquirer allege that after his arrest, Busey asked officers to apologize to the women on his behalf and begged them to persuade the victims not to press charges.
The actor ultimately took a plea deal and now faces one to five years of probation along with court-imposed fines.
This isn’t the first time Busey has made headlines for alleged inappropriate or erratic behavior. In the past three years, he’s been accused of fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run at a shopping center and even of public masturbation.
Once a celebrated actor, Busey’s name is now more often tied to controversy than to his film career.
