In a jaw-dropping new interview that has lit up the political landscape, Hunter Biden has claimed that his father—former President Joe Biden—was under the influence of the prescription sleep aid Ambien during last year’s fateful debate against President Donald Trump.
The revelation came during a profanity-laced sit-down with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan, marking one of Hunter’s first on-camera interviews since being convicted of federal gun and tax crimes.
“They Give Him Ambien”
“I know exactly what happened in that debate,” Hunter said, referring to the June 2024 presidential face-off that effectively ended his father’s reelection hopes. “He flew around the world. He’s 81 years old. He’s tired. They give him Ambien to be able to sleep, and he gets up on the stage and looks like a deer in the headlights.”
The CNN debate, held in Atlanta, was requested by Joe Biden himself as a bold attempt to quell doubts about his stamina and cognitive health. But from the moment he stepped on stage, Biden appeared dazed, mumbling through answers and freezing mid-sentence.
What followed was a political implosion.
Despite weeks of prep at Camp David, where Biden rehearsed with 16 aides in a private theater, the 81-year-old crumbled in front of a national audience. Within days, support evaporated. And by mid-July 2024, he suspended his campaign.
No official record of an Ambien prescription for the former president has surfaced. The Biden family and his representatives have so far declined comment.
A Firestorm of Attacks
But that was only the beginning.
Hunter Biden, 55, used the interview to settle scores with public figures who criticized his father’s decline or the Democratic Party’s handling of 2024.
He unleashed a furious tirade on CNN anchor Jake Tapper, whose best-selling book Original Sin chronicles Biden’s collapse.
“What influence does Jake Tapper have over anything?” Hunter fumed. “He has the smallest audience on cable news!”
He then turned his sights on Hollywood: “George Clooney is not a f—ing actor. He’s a brand,” Hunter spat, referring to Clooney’s blistering New York Times op-ed last year calling on Biden to step aside for the good of the party.
Longtime Democrat strategist James Carville wasn’t spared either. “Hasn’t won a race in 40 f—ing years,” Hunter said. He dismissed David Axelrod, too, claiming his only success was “because of Barack Obama.”
“F— You” to Immigration Critics
Hunter also went on an unscripted rant about immigration, attacking Americans who complain about undocumented workers.
“People are really upset about illegal immigration? F— you,” he said. “How do you think your hotel room gets cleaned? How do you think you have food on your f—ing table?”
The outburst stunned many—including Democrats—who have been grappling with President Trump’s aggressive border policies in his second term.
Background and Fallout
The timing of the interview was no accident—it landed exactly one year after the CNN debate that effectively ended Joe Biden’s presidency.
Once a rising star turned political liability, Hunter Biden has lived much of his adult life under public scrutiny. In 2024, he was convicted of lying on a federal gun form and later pleaded guilty to multiple counts of tax evasion. The son of the former president has also battled public addiction issues and faced intense congressional investigations.
Republicans quickly seized on the new footage.
Senator Ted Cruz called the interview “a meltdown.” Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk went further: “Hunter Biden speaks like a vulgar, bitter drug addict, because he is a vulgar, bitter drug addict. Very sad to see the son of a former U.S. President behave like this.”
Kirk added, “This is the real Biden family. Unhinged, entitled, and angry that America moved on.”
What’s Next?
With President Trump now firmly in control of the White House and Democrats struggling to rally around a post-Biden identity, Hunter’s bombshell interview could add fuel to an already chaotic election season.
One thing is certain: Hunter Biden isn’t staying quiet—and the political world isn’t ready for what he might say next.

having taken ambien once upon a time, i totally see hunter’s point. took daily for 2 wks, i was hearing things. thought whoopie was after my husband, so crazy. even went to the hosp., where they cont. the ambien, till i said no more. kept waking up, dozing off, guess things from somewhere entered my mind, thought things we’re really happening, when they weren’t. after about 1 wk off them, got back to normal me. be careful y’all.
