A French court has just turned the defamation case of the decade on its head.

Two women who claimed that Brigitte Macron — wife of French President Emmanuel Macron — was secretly born a man named Jean-Michel Trogneux have been dramatically acquitted by the Paris Court of Appeal.

Psychic Amandine Roy and conspiracy blogger Natacha Rey were previously found guilty of libel after they aired their explosive claims in a four-hour YouTube video in 2021. But in a stunning reversal on Thursday, judges ruled their statements did not constitute defamation — calling them protected speech under French free expression laws.

“We’re acquitted!” Roy’s defense attorney Maud Marian shouted outside court. Rey’s lawyer, François Danglehant, echoed the sentiment: “This is a victory for truth and transparency.”

Roy and Rey alleged that Brigitte Macron was born male and later transitioned — claiming she once lived as her own brother, Jean-Michel Trogneux, born in 1953. They also suggested Brigitte’s first husband, André-Louis Auzière, never actually existed, implying the French establishment fabricated parts of her identity.

The women said they were relentlessly harassed for trying to expose what they called a “state secret,” and accused French authorities of “intimidation tactics.”

The case initially ended with both women fined thousands of euros, but that punishment has now been entirely overturned. And in a legal twist, they are now free to repeat the claims.

Brigitte Macron, currently on a state visit to Britain with her husband, was reportedly “devastated” by the ruling. Her legal team has vowed to take the case to France’s highest court — the Court of Cassation.

One aide revealed the timing couldn’t be worse. The first lady is also privately mourning the death of her 93-year-old sister Anne-Marie, which occurred just days before the UK visit.

“She’s putting on a brave face,” said the source. “But she’s grieving, under pressure, and facing attacks from all sides.”

Brigitte Macron has become a lightning rod for bizarre conspiracy theories — many linked to her age gap with the president (she is 25 years his senior) and the origins of their relationship. The couple met when Emmanuel Macron was just 15 and Brigitte, then a teacher, was 40 and married with children.

While the Macrons have always denied any impropriety or secrets in their relationship, the accusations have snowballed online, especially with the release of the controversial book Becoming Brigitte by journalist Xavier Poussard, and videos by U.S. influencer Candace Owens.

Meanwhile, four men are set to face cyberbullying charges in Paris next month after they compared Brigitte Macron to a pedophile and made repeated jabs at her gender and sexuality. One of the accused, known online as “Zoe Sagan,” is being held in custody — a move his lawyer blasted as “a political attack on free speech.”

The ruling comes just months after viral footage showed Brigitte appearing to slap her husband on the tarmac during a state visit to Vietnam. Both denied the incident was serious, brushing it off as a marital squabble — but it only added fuel to the firestorm.

Their marriage has long fascinated — and scandalized — the French public. The president fell for Brigitte when he was still a high school student and she was his drama teacher. Brigitte later admitted it “crippled” her socially but said, “I didn’t want to miss out on my life.”

Now, with the courts effectively greenlighting the most salacious rumors about her past, Brigitte Macron finds herself in the most personal political battle of her life.
