Margaret Cho isn’t holding back about her long and icy history with Ellen DeGeneres—and she’s got the receipts.
Speaking with host Kelly Mantle on a recent podcast, Cho, 56, revealed that behind the scenes, the famously “nice” Ellen was anything but. “Ellen was really weird and not nice to me for most of my career,” Cho confessed, adding, “I opened for her back in the 1980s when she was a headliner—way before all the daytime fame and fortune.”
But the real shocker? Cho says DeGeneres barely even acknowledged her when she landed a coveted spot on Ellen’s talk show in the 2000s. “She acted like we just met. And I’m like, ‘B—h, what?’ That’s weird. We go way back. It’s so creepy and weird.” Cho described the interaction as cold and dismissive—far from the warmth Ellen shows her celebrity guests on camera.
The situation hit a boiling point during a particularly star-studded taping. Cho appeared on Ellen’s show alongside David Bowie, who, according to Cho, raved about an elaborate Chinese Emperor outfit she wore. But viewers never saw that moment. “She cut it out of the show. Which made me so mad,” Cho admitted. “The producer—who’s a really good friend of mine—had to call and say, ‘I can’t believe she did this, but she cut it out of the show. But you need to know, David Bowie was going on and on about your outfit. He loves you. God said your name.’”
Cho admits she can’t be sure why the scene was scrapped. “Maybe it was for time. But still, I’m going to take it personally just because I decided to.”
Ellen DeGeneres, now 67, ended her daytime TV reign in 2022 amid a cloud of scandal, following explosive accusations of a toxic, hostile work environment. She has kept a low profile since, reportedly relocating to the U.K. with her wife Portia de Rossi.
For years, Ellen branded herself as “kind” and a champion for outsiders. Now, Cho’s blunt confessions are adding to a growing chorus questioning whether that was ever the truth. DeGeneres has not responded to Cho’s latest allegations.
Stay tuned—Hollywood’s “nicest” star is once again under fire, and this time, the accusations hit close to home.

I remember DeGenerate’s often expressed hate of anyone who didn’t think homosexuality addiction mental illness was a good idea… She even hired her mother to promote homosexuality addiction in special ads…
It took Cho this long to start complaining about Ellen DeGeneres. Sounds like she’s seeking attention.
Cho has always been very classy lady! Ellen, on the other hand, has never been classy! It sounds like maybe there were misplaced intimate feelings for Cho, and Ellen didn’t know how to hide those feelings, so she was cold and indifferent to Cho off camera. On camera, Ellen played the part of Ms. Kind person; off camera, Ellen was herself, and didn’t feel the need for kindness!
I never could figure out WHY I felt Ellen was NOT genuinely kind, but it was just an act…now I know why! Empaths pick up on people’s goodness and badness…Ellen’s aura was flawed.
